Stuffed mushroom and an open bar. Why is art so tasty?

This last Thursday I ran around the alleys of downtown Minot taking random pictures for a collage that I intended to enter into the 62 Doors Gallery and Studios Art Exhibit. I missed the deadline for entering artwork into the show, but Dan, the owner of the studio, let me enter anyway. So I kind of threw it together extremely last minute.

Anyway, tonight was the artists opening reception, which was a lot of fun. I loved admiring pieces and then being able to meet and talk with the artists who created them and talk about techniques and their ideas behind certain pieces.

My particular entry didn't make it into the actual show, but was hung in the back gallery where they posted the 'didn't make it but still kinda good' pieces. I was kind of bummed at that until I talked to a friend who rents studio space there, and he showed me the room where they kept the pieces that were completely rejected.. and there were dozens and dozens. So I'm actually fairly surprised and happy that my last minute cobbled together piece made it so far, especially since the ones in the show were amazing! Plus a lot of people sought out the 'photographer who made the Minot photo collage' to ask me questions about it. And that was just smiley!

Also really cool was that they had a kind of open bar with all sorts of fancy hor'dourves like cheeses and crackers and stuffed mushrooms and things. They also had lots of free wines to choose from as well. At one point I was standing and talking to one of the artists while staring and nodding at the food and drink bars like they were a work of art. In fact I'm not sure what excited me more.. the art or the receptions wine bar. hehe! So anyway it was a very fun, very artsy event. The exhibit will open up for the public for the next couple weeks or so.

And for those of you wondering, here's some of the types of pictures I put in my collage. I scattered the pictures scrapbook style and hung them between two sheets of glass in a large black frame. So my actual piece looks quite different than this uniform style JPEG. But at least you get an idea! ^_^

On a side note, my emotions have been slowly erupting recently.. but I'm choosing to keep it on the downlow. I am getting in touch with old friends, some good and some bad.. and they all stir up wildly different emotions in me. I am making new friends who are influencing and inspiring me in so many different ways.. artisticly, intellectually and generally. To put it poetically, I'm falling in love in a variety of ways. But I've been keeping too busy to really dwell on it... oh well. Bed time for Gingi.
