Update to
this post: I had my consultation with the trainer. He won me over in several ways: his preferred approach is cardio intervals and compound bodyweight exercises. He also told me that to achieve my goals in the 2 month time frame we have to work with (after that I'm moving out of state), I was going to need to work out as much on my own as I did with him. He did not try to push me to sign up for more sessions. And the real clincher is when he said that he thought it was cool that one of my goals was strength and building muscle, and complained that most of his female clients are irrationally afraid of "bulking up." We had a discussion/bitch session about where the hell that idea even comes from.
So, I signed up for 22 sessions over the next 2 months (3x/week this month and 2x/week next). I am optimistic about the program working for me because I am a cheap bastard who never plunks down that type of cash for anything, and will bust ass to get my money's worth, first of all. And second, the studio is 5 min. from my work so I can go before work, during lunch, or after. All the training will be 1 on 1 and I am way less lazy when someone is standing there telling me to do stuff and actually paying attention. And did I mention this costs money and I'm cheap? I am going to *live* in that place for the next 8 weeks. It's pretty nice, kind of like a spa except with gym equipment. It's really small, 3 training rooms and a general cardio area with about 6 machines for warming up. They said there's usually maybe 5 clients there at a time. So another score for me, minimal interaction with people!
I go in on Tuesday to do a fitness assessment to establish baseline - scale weight, body fat, and actual cardio and strength abilities. I am really interested in how in shape or out of shape I actually am.
