Do you train alone at home? Are you a member of a gym and train exclusively there? Or do you have some delicious combination of both going on ( Read more... )

The tags seem a little out of place...

I'm kinda surprised you didn't get the "here we go again" one. I don't think your question is a bad one, but it seems most people here don't like the "This is what I do! What do YOU do?" posts very much.
Anyway, I'm glad you asked it because I'm moving to a new city soon and will probably not have all the hiking/outdoor activity/space to work out at home that I currently have so it's question I've been weighing myself.

I:
-have a gym membership
-train in a private garage gym
-cario out in the sunshine

I originally got the gym membership because that's where my trainer was. When he left the gym to go full garage style, I kept the membership, because when he's busy, or I want to throw another workout in, I need a place to go (garage gym is sadly not MY garage).

The garage gym is awesome. We have boxing gloves and 10 different kettle bells and not a single stupid machine or annoying person. Just me, my trainer, and as much sweat as I can drip on the wrestling mat. It's the best place I've ever trained.

Outdoor cardio. I have an olypic tri coming up in two months, so I've been running, biking, and swimming (in socal, so the best pools are out in the sunshine) 5-7 times a week.

Yeah i workout at home, for the same reasons you do. Also, if I was a member of a gym I'd probably work out less because of the hassle of getting there. Home workouts are just more convenient for me.

Gym. Sometimes HIIT at home with a jump rope.

Pros: I don't have to buy or maintain any equipment, there's a huge variety of things to choose from, and since there are a ton of people who know what they're doing and are much more experienced than me, there are also a ton of people I can learn from.

Cons: Because it's a university Rec center it's freaking mobbed in the Spring and Fall. Don't even think about bench pressing on Monday or Tuesday. When dealing with a lot of people in a confined space you also have to deal with all of their personal quirks (e.g., curling in the squat racks, sweat on the benches, bragging about 1/4 squats, BO, etc). :-P

Your experience furthers this idea... aint_no_nothin July 31 2009, 18:14:23 UTC
I read somewhere that a majority people tend to bench on Monday. What's up with that, lol? Maybe they feel bad for the binge drinking session they just completed and want to start things off right!

According to Cosgrove in NROL, his hypothesis was that guys (not all, but a lot) think that bench pressing is a focus, so that becomes their first lift on the first day of their routine. If you haven't been tired out by other lifts, you should be able to lift your personal max potential.

My routine is in a 2 week, push-pull cycle. So I do bench on Mondays, sometimes. But its not my first lift. The squat is.
