I'm getting ready to go to bed when I hear the cats making noise out in the living room. I go out to check, just in case, not really expecting it to be anything. I started to hope when I realised all three cats were clustered around something, staring intently. I went over and there was Hamlet, curled up defensively and trying to strike at Robin, who was batting at him with his paw. So I push the cats out of the way and scoop up the snake. I checked him over, and he seems none the worse for the wear. The cats are mighty put out that their play toy has been taken away, particularly Robin. I'm just thrilled to have my snake back safe and sound.
So Hamlet's back in his tank. I've taped the lid shut, just in case, and tomorrow I'm going to go out to the pet store and see if I can't get a better quality lid -- one which fits more tightly so that it won't be so easy to latch incorrectly.
I can't believe I actually got him back alive. I really had pretty much given up on finding him in one piece, if at all. I figured either I'd never know what happened, or I'd come across some remains sometime in the distant future. So the snake saga of the weekend had at least half of a happy ending :)
