"Jeez, where is Ryosuke? He hadn't returned the plate." Mirai groaned as she and Umika washed the other plates and kitchen utensils.
They were in their Home Ec. Lab. It was their group's turn to cook this week. It would be graded by their teachers. They made gordon bleu chicken, omelette and jello.
Everyone had fun cooking together. Saaya and Non-chan were the ones in charged with the main dish. Mirai was of course in charge with her specialty, omelette. And Umika made the strawberry-cherry jello. Shougo and Kobayashi didn't help much with the cooking but they prepared and decorated the table where their teachers would eat.
They were sure they at least scrape a 4. Their teachers were fairly satisfied with the food and they were very curious as to how Umika made the jello. It's a family secret, but it was just your normal cherry flavored jello with strawberry ice cream and frozen strawberries.
After their teachers ate, it was the group's turn to eat. Yamada-kun, even though not part of the group but because Mirai cooked and there were strawberries, came and ate with them. He actually brought the leftover jello with him when he went. Umika and Mirai weren't expecting any jello left but they did want the plate back.
"Umika-chan, can I leave you for a sec?" Mirai asked, wiping her hands with the towel.
"Yeah, sure." Umika said as she continued to wash.
"I'll be back in a jiffy." Mirai said as she took off her apron and dashed outside the room.
"Ah, Miki-kun." She said as she go. Kamiki just waved. He was talking to someone on the phone.
He entered the room and sat in one of the chairs.
This was a normal occurrence. As it wasn't allowed to use mobile phone here in school, Kamiki and most of their class always go here in the Home Ec. Lab, Physics Lab, or rooftop, basically anywhere where there are no teachers and there are few CCTV, so they could make a call.
Umika continued cleaning up as Kamiki laughed on the phone.
Suddenly, the door opened and Kobayashi entered.
"Oh, great, Kobayashi-kun, can you take out the trash? Sensei said to put them out after we're done here." Umika said.
"Umika-chan, I have to go now. Saaya's waiting for me." Kobayashi said.
"Oh."
"But I'll take the trash out." He said as he took the trash and went out once more.
"Thanks!" Umika said as Jingi closed the door behind him.
There was a click.
Umika sharply turned to the door. She wiped her hands and went to the door. She tried turning the knob... it wouldn't budge.
"Uhmm, Kamiki-kun?" She called.
He looked up from the phone.
"What is it, Umika-chan?"
"I think we're locked in." She said.
"Just a sec." Kamiki said to Umika and then turned to his phone. "Ah, Mamayu? Can I call you back? Ah, later then? Yeah, sure. Okay. Bye."
He looked at Umika. "We're locked in?"
"I think so. Can you try--?" Umika said pointing at the door.
Kamiki went approached the door and tried opening it, too. Nothing happened. "Seems we're locked from the outside. What happened?"
"Well, Kobayashi-kun was here. And then he went out and closed the door and that's it." Umika said.
"Well, the door does look old." Kamiki said. "It's already dismissal time but I'm sure Mirai will come back, so we'll just have to wait."
Umika nodded and went back to work. Kamiki watched her and after a while, helped her clean up.
In no time, there was nothing left to do and no one was still coming.
They were now sitting by the table.
"It's been an hour, where's everybody?" Kamiki said.
"I think it's just been 30 minutes..." Umika said.
"Ehhh? Only 30 minutes?"
Umika nodded, confirming it on her phone's watch. "Just 28 minutes..."
"Wow, time sure slows down when you're doing nothing..." Kamiki said.
"Why don't you call Mayuko again?" Umika suggested.
"She has work. She said to call around dinner time... I would call Mirai-chan or Ryosuke but I know Mirai follows the rules letter by letter and Ryosuke follows her lead. So their phones is probably in their lockers or something."
Umika laughed. That was no exaggeration.
"I wonder what's taking Mirai so long..." Umika muttered.
"Probably still hunting Ryosuke down, or scolding him. Ahhh~ I wanna see~" He said longingly that Umika had to laugh again.
"You three are really close, ne?"
Kamiki smiled. "Cause we've known each other for so long. We've grew real close during TGQ SP and we never really stopped talking even after the filming. And then there's TGQ dorama, and then we're here now."
Kamiki frowned, "Hmmm... It's been that long but I haven't win Mirai even once..." He muttered.
Umika looked at him confused.
"Kamiki-kun?"
"You can call me Miki-kun, you know. Like Mirai-chan." He smiled at Umika.
"Miki-kun, can I ask you a personal question?" Umika tried again.
"Yeah, sure. What is it?"
"Uhmmm, are you dating Mayuko?"
Kamiki looked at her a little surprise, "Yes, I am. I thought it was quite obvious..."
"But then do you like Mirai-chan?" Umika asked.
Kamiki's face lighten up, "Ahhh... yes, I like Mirai, but not that way. I'm more of a pet."
"Huh?"
Kamiki laughed. "Well, to put it simply, I love Mirai, I want her to be happy that I wouldn't forgive Ryosuke if he'd ever hurt her. It seems too shallow if I put it as loving Mirai as friend, but it's also different from brotherly love. I mean, I don't think a brother would want the attention of her sister much, do you?"
Umika shook her head. And then shrugged, "Well, unless you have a sister-con."
"Well, if you put it that way..." He trailed off. "Nah, it's still different." He said after a while."
"It's not brotherly but it's not romantic either." He continued saying. "I think it's closer to how a pet would feel for his owner." He said, laughing.
"I'm still kinda confused..." Umika said looking truly bewildered.
"Well, when a guy likes a girl it doesn't necessarily mean he wants to date her. It's the same with girls, right?"
Umika nodded. "Like Mariya-chan and Yamada-kun."
Kamiki nodded.
"But I don't think it's the same case for Mariya and Takahata-kun. She's seeing more of him than us." Umika said as an afterthought.
"I thought they were already dating?" Kamiki said, confused.
"Nothing's official yet." Umika said.
"But Misaki even asked for Ryosuke's help..."
"Well, Mariya would tell us if there's any progress. But I think it'll end up that way anyway... Mariya seems to like Misaki and Misaki is really persistent. But we'll have to wait." Umika said.
"Yeah... only the people involved would know so we shouldn't assume. I mean in my case, I love Mirai but I can't imagine kissing her." Kamiki looked up. "Well, okay, I can but it's really weird imagining it... And after the image I somehow see Ryosuke holding a dagger... scary..."
Umika laughed.
"When we first met, both me and Ryosuke really had a crush on Mirai." Kamiki continued. "And when we knew that both of us felt the same for Mirai, it became like a competition. Silly competitions of who could make Mirai laugh or who can make her angry... but then I met Mayuko. I realized how I felt for Mirai was just infatuation. And I was just a bit carried away with competing with Ryosuke. We still do those silly competitions but it's just a habit now."
"But Mirai doesn't know, does she?"
Kamiki shook his head, chuckling. "She can be a bit thick. And the game is on a higher scale now since sometimes Shougo, Jingi, Yuto and Chii would join in. Most of the time we do it just so we could annoy Ryosuke and of course Ryosuke wouldn't want to lose when it's something involving Mirai. But it's just silly, really, like who Mirai would first greet in the morning. I remember that time all of us went to school so early just so Mirai would see us first."
He laughed reminiscently.
"Was that the time all of you were asleep by gym class? So that's why!" Umika said, laughing as well.
"Well, Mirai is what you'd call 'one of the boys' so we get along with her so well, but we're also conscious that she's a girl so we end up treating her differently than how we treat each other. Don't' tell Mirai though, it'll annoy her. She wants to think she's tough. She is, but sometimes she's forgetting she's a girl. She's very protective of you guys as well, isn't she?"
Umika shook her head. "Wrong word. She's overprotective. I'm sure you know what Yuto had to endure when he was still courting Suzu-chan."
"I remember that! Mirai was like a hawk!" They both laughed.
"Miki-kun..."
"Hm?"
"What about Mayuko? What do you think of her?"
"I could definitely imagine myself kissing her. And enjoying the kiss." He said so with such a bright face, Umika wished she'd brought a camera.
She haven't really talk to Kamiki like this before, it's really such a waste since it turned out Kamiki is fun.
"Mayuko, I love." Kamiki shook his head. "I mean, I love Mayuko, not as a friend, a brother and definitely not as a pet. I love her as a man, if you may." he shrugged. "I want to be her prince."
Umika stared at him.
"What?"
She giggled. "Sorry, I just never thought I'd hear that from a boy."
"Hear what?"
Umika shrugged. "Being a prince..."
"Ah... but that's what girls like, right? They want a prince to sweep them off their feet? Of course us boys would want to be like that for the girls we like. I mean I know it's important to just be yourself but it wouldn't hurt if we'd try to bring out our best self, ne? Be prince-like for our princess. Not physically..." he stopped then looked at Umika, "when you girls say 'prince-like,' you don't mean physically, right?"
"Well, 'prince-like physically' is a plus, but no, we meant how you act."
Kamiki nodded.
"Are all of you like that?" Umika said.
Kamiki shrugged. "I dunno. But I'm sure every guy would do everything for the girl they really love."
Umika smiled.
"And besides..." Kamiki continued.
There was a knock on the door. "Umika! Are you there?"
It was Yuri's voice.
"Umika-chan?" and Mirai's.
"Yeah, we got locked in." Umika called out.
"You've also got your prince." Kamiki said gesturing outside.
Umika smiled at that.
"Ryosuke! Go get the key!" they heard Mirai and Yuri say together.
Kamiki smirked. "I think you've got two."
And Umika laughed.
