It was really amusing for Kaname Jun to watch his younger co-actors.
They were currently on location to shoot for the last two episodes of Tantei Gakuen Q, and Kaname was definitely enjoying the tension.
Looking at the younger ones--as he'd like to call them in his head-- he couldn't help but feel a little old.
'Ah, to be young and in love…' He thought, silently chuckling to himself. He didn't expect anything this interesting would develop. But then again, it wasn't very surprising
Mirai-chan and Yama-chan had been inseparable since their SP. They just clicked. They would talk about nothing and everything and during their breaks, they were always together. Just after a week of working on their renzoku, Yama-chan had dubbed Mirai-chan his best friend. And the young actress had beamed at him and claimed that she too considers him her best friend.
But now, Yama-chan wouldn't even look at Mirai-chan. Remembering the reason, Kaname let out another soft chuckle.
The awkwardness was filling the place as Yama-chan and Mirai-chan did a scene of Megu and Ryuu. And Kaname was seriously entertained.
He could still see how it happened; the accident-the reason for his amusement.
--
It happened right after they shoot Kinta episode, as he'd call it. It was already late afternoon and they were mostly finished with their work. Kaname had just shot a scene with just him and Yamashita Shinji-san (who acted as Kinta's father), and had came back to their waiting area.
He had found his co-actors in their typical routine. Wakaba and Kamiki were sitting next to each other, playing PSP. Besides them were Yamada and Mirai-chan. Usually, Yama-chan would join them while Mirai-chan read a book, but that day, he found them sitting very close to each other with Mirai sleeping, her head leaning on Yama-chan's shoulder. And with Yamada closely watching their other friends playing.
He didn't really thought much about it. It wasn't really a surprise to see them so close, but he had noted that Mirai's position was a little awkward. Her front was facing Yama-chan's. Her back was hunched, and her forehead was resting on Yama-chan's shoulder. Yama-chan, as Kaname could see, was trying not to move in order not to wake the slumbering girl.
That had made him smile, and for a while he entertained the thought of the two actually not being just best friends. He'd laugh it off in his head and addressed Yama-chan.
"Wouldn't she have stiff neck in that position?" He asked the younger guy quietly.
Yama-chan slowly turned to him, limiting his movement.
"You think so?" He said in a whisper. "She just looks so tired. She's attending workshops again."
"It looks uncomfortable." He told him, whispering as well.
Yama-chan sighed and made a small nod. "Help me." He said and Kaname stepped forward and cautiously lift Mirai's head. He realized how exhausted the girl must be as she didn't even stir.
Yama-chan moved back and faced Mirai, and carefully held her by both shoulders.
"Maybe we should lay her down." Kaname suggested, still holding Mirai's head up.
"Oka--" Yama-chan was about to say when Kamiki suddenly jumped up.
"I WON!!" He announced while Wakaba gaped, witnessing what had happened behind Kamiki.
Kaname was left to stare, shocked. After about five seconds, Kamiki realized his friends were ignoring him and turned to see what happened, and consequently, gasped.
Mirai's eyes fluttered open at the contact. For half a second she felt disorganized, not very sure of what she's seeing in front of her. It was red and warm.
Slowly, she pulled away and realized it was Yama-chan. Another few seconds and her brain registered what just happened.
Her eyes widen and she let out a little squeak. That seemed to jolt Yama-chan out of his trance and he looked like he wanted to cry. Suddenly, the director called out loud that they were finished for the day. At that, Yamada just… well, disappeared. Turning around, Kaname saw the back of him, running away and with his manager in tow.
"What… just happened?" Mirai asked weakly.
"You kissed." Wakaba unnecessarily answered.
After that, the cast and crew of Tantei Gakuen Q had never again saw the two together if not for their scenes. After every 'cut', Yamada would mysteriously disappear and only came back when shooting for the next scene starts.
Mirai had been trying to talk to him, but Yamada was just too fast for her. A few days ago, Mirai was able to grab his wrist but suddenly he had told her -- rather panicked-- to "Get away from me!"
Mirai looked really hurt and frustrated then. After he was gone, she had turned to them and asked, "What is his problem?!"
Kamiki had answered, "It was probably his first kiss…"
"It was my first, too!" Mirai had said, sounding irritated.
"Maybe he didn't like it?" Wakaba suggested. "Maybe he's like… traumatized or something."
Mirai managed to look both insulted and worried. Kaname had stared at her then. And he had to nodded to himself. 'Yup, definitely worried.'
"It's not even an issue of whether liking it or not!" She claimed, blushing furiously. "It was an accident!"
"Well, Yama-chan is kinda… pure." Kamiki said, uncertainly.
And Kaname couldn't help but laugh. The three stared at him like he was scaring them, but he didn't care. It was too fun watching them.
--
Kaname was brought back to the present when their director had called, 'CUT!'
He watched once more as Yamada tried to get away quickly, but the director had called for him.
He moved toward the director instead, and Kaname noted that Mirai-chan still didn't go, but closely watched Yamada.
He was very surprised-- and so amused he wanted to grab the crew's camera and start filming-- when after talking to the director and moving subtly away from everyone, Yamada had gotten himself attacked by a Mirai-missile. She had basically tackled him (good thing they didn't topple over) and grabbed him at the waist by two slender arms.
Realizing what had happened, Yamada once again proved to Kaname just how translucent his skin was. (How could someone be so red?!)
Kaname had hastily moved forward toward them, so he could watch (and hear) properly.
"…need to talk." Mirai had said. She was looking straight at Yamada's face, while Yamada looked everywhere but at her. Neither of them had noticed him approaching.
"Mirai-chan, please get away from me." Yamada begged, still without looking at the day-younger girl.
"This is getting weird!" Mirai proclaimed. "What happened to you? Why do you keep running away from me?!"
"Just… please, let me go…" Yamada said softly.
"I don't want to." Mirai said, and Kaname was surprised to see that she looked about to cry. "I… I miss my best friend." She said softly.
Yamada stopped struggling to get away. Well, he just stopped moving. He seems to be very taken aback.
"I…. I won't kiss you again. It was an accident, anyway! Please stop running away." Mirai pleaded.
And it was interesting for Kaname to note that Yamada looked very much disappointed.
And his eyes widen at the next thing that happened.
Yamada had finally looked at her, and then suddenly leaned down and kiss her very quickly. Right on the lips.
Mirai--very surprised--had let go of him and just stared. She couldn't even formulate a question, but it was in her eyes.
"That's why I told you to… get away from me." Yamada muttered, again scarlet at the face.
An awkward pause and Yamada once more, tried to run away, but Mirai had seen it coming and clutched his hand.
She looked angry this time. "Why..? You are not running away from me after kissing me!" She'd announced. "You will stay and explain to me what the hell is going on!"
Yamada looked indignant. "You're stupid if you don't know!" He suddenly said.
"Well, sorry for being stupid but you're still explaining!" Mirai said.
"I like you! Baka!" Yamada had said, just like that. And Kaname once again felt very old indeed. "I never realized until it happened but there! After that, I just can't stop thinking about you that way. And I kept wanting for it to happen again and I just want to reign in the urge! That's why I keep avoiding you! It's hard being near you!"
--------------
"Kaname-chan!" A very familiar voice called out, and Kaname turned to see a very close friend he hadn't seen for ages now.
"Mirai-chan!" He said, grinning. Being with her in many dramas now, he had grown to consider her a little sister now. He had basically watch her grow up. And now a very beautiful young lady stands before him.
He had received a big hug from the younger actress as she said, "It's so nice to see you!"
"You too." He told her, returning the hug.
"How have you been?" She asked him.
"Fine. As always. You?"
"It's been great." She said. "Oh, here." She told her as she took something from her bag and gave to him.
It was a giri choco.
"Happy Valentine's!" She told him.
Kaname chuckled and said, "Mirai-chan, it says here that this is for Nakajima Yuto."
Mirai looked sheepish but said anyway. "It's okay; I'll just buy another one on the way."
"Well, thanks." He told her. He smiled when he got a look at one other box in the paper bag.
"Say hi to Yama-chan for me." He just told her. Inside the box where strawberries coated in chocolate.
She blushed, but nodded. "Yeah, sure."
"Well, I'll see you around." Kaname had said. Mirai nodded and gave him another hug. That girl really is fond of hugs.
He smiled as they went their separate ways. To think that it's been six years since the accident.
END.
