Umika, what are you doing?” Umika heard someone say from the back.
“Mirai-chan.” She said as she looked up from the piece of paper she was staring at.
“What’s that?” Mirai asked once more.
“I honestly don’t know.” Umika said, still staring at the paper.
Mirai looked and saw an equation.
“Umika-chan, I think that’s just a scratch paper.” Mirai commented.
“I thought so, too. But my name’s on it.” She said showing Mirai the paper.
To Kawashima Umika-san
“They even use your full name, but who’s it from?”
Umika shrugged. “No name.”
Mirai looked at the paper again and noticed something.
“Umika-chan, can I see that for a second.”
Umika didn’t know why Mirai folded the paper.n
===
“Mirai-chan, you’re great in math, right?” Umika asked Mirai who was busy sipping her iced coffee.
“Huh?”
“Do you know statistics? I think this is statistics.” Umika said, pointing at a piece of paper.
Mirai took the paper. It was that handwriting again. It was somewhat familiar to Mirai. She knew it must be one of the boys, but then again. their handwriting all look similar.
To Kawashima Umika-san
U [HV-LV] d pi/2
Mirai smirked. “Umika-chan, it’s not just statistics. It’s a combination of algebra, geometry, calculus and statistics.”
Umika watched Mirai took out a pen and another piece of paper.
“This is a variable, and this is the formula for range...” She said as she scribbled something down.
===
“Let me guess.” Mirai said before Umika could even utter her first word.
“You got another one?” she asked.
Umika nodded. “It’s actually getting a bit tiring... I’m not fond of numbers.” She said.
“But it’s sweet.” Mirai said giggling.
“So what is it this time?” Mirai asked after her fit of laughter.
“Here.” Umika said handing her the piece of paper.
It was the same format.n
To Kawashima Umika-san
9x-7i > 3 (3x-7u)
Mirai stared at the formula for a long time.
Umika waited.
And then Mirai spoke, “Sorry. I can’t understand this one. It doesn’t make any sense.”
“Huh? Why?”
“It’s just numbers... I... it’s a problem...” Mirai said, still looking at the formula.
Both fell silent.
“Wait,” Mirai said. “I think I got it!”
And then Mirai started solving the problem.
===
“Mirai!” Umika called.
“Another one?” Mirai automatically answered.
Umika sighed. “Yeah. Now it’s chemistry.” She said.
“I don’t get why they have to use codes.” Umika grumbled.
“Maybe they’re shy?” Mirai suggested.
Umika sighed again.
Mirai looked at the latest letter.
To Kawashima Umika-san
Carbon, Hydrogen, Iodine gas
Lutetium, Vanadium
Uranium
Umika was surprised when Mirai squealed.
“What is it?” Umika asked.
“It’s fairly simple. And now I know who is sending them!” Mirai said.
Umika moved closer to Mirai and Mirai explained.

To Kawashima Umika-san
@};- @};- are #FF0000
83-)- 83-)- 83-)- are #0000FF
You might not know,
But I Alt + 3 You
Umika read. This was the 5th letter.
This time, she didn’t need Mirai to decode. She was a blogger after all.
She already knew who sent the letters but it seems he doesn’t plan to expose himself.
So she decided to just reply via mail, too.

Chii arrived at Horikoshi an hour before their time. He always went to school early, and before class, he’ll read their previous lessons and their lesson for the day.
He went to Umika’s locker intending to leave another note.
Before, he only scribbles in his note... But then he thought of giving this scribbles to Umika instead. It was a alleviating to think that even though Umika didn’t know who he was or even though Umika doesn’t understand his words, he’d express himself somehow.
Even if Umika disregarded those letters, at least she was able to receive them.
So he was startled to find all his letters posted in her locker.
‘Mirai! I forgot about Mirai!’ Chii inwardly groaned. He can recognize that handwriting anywhere. He always compares his exams with Mirai. She was his rival when it comes to academics. And the ballpoint pen she used... it was the pen Yama-chan gave her. It is strawberry scented.
‘Jeez, she solved everything. Kill me.’
But then he realized he hasn’t seen his last letter. He looked around Umika’s locker and found it farthest inside.
‘This is not Mirai’s handwriting.’ He privately whimpered as he saw blue scribbles.
‘She knows.’ He deadpanned
But then he saw more blue scribbles at the bottom of the paper.
To Chinen Yuri-kun
Rosa rosa are 700nm
Viola ordata are 450nm
You might not know
But I cardiac muscle you, too.
“It’s lame, I know.”
Chii almost jump when he heard her voice.
It was Umika.
“But,” she continued. “I’m not a nerd.”
Chii smiled, hesitantly. He didn’t really know how to react, so he just went with the first sentence he thought off.
“Nerds don’t displease you, right?” He asked.
“Nope. I love Mirai.” Umika said.
Chii smiled. “Yeah, I have to thank her.”
He offered his hand, and Umika took it.
Chii sighed in contentment.
“Pi...” He murmured.
Love is like pi - natural, irrational, and very important -Lisa Hoffman
END.
AN:
/i forgot to explain some of them, sorry.
-in the second letter, 'U' is an algebraic variable, '[HV-LV]' in statistics is the formula for range or R, d is 'deviation' from calculus and pi/2 in geom is equal to 1. U R d 1 = "you are the one"
-in the fifth letter, i just tried to make roses and violets from characters... #FF0000 is the hex color code for red and #0000FF for blue (this is used in html...) and when you type Alt + 3, the symbol formed would be a heart.
-in umika's reply. i just used the scientific names of rose and violet. in medical term, cardiac muscle is simply the heart. and 700nm is the wavelength measure for the visible color red and likewise, 450nm for the visible color blue.
