"Wow, Yuto-kun! Next year tell me when it's time!"
Yuto smiled, "Yeah, then let's go here again!"
"Let's do this every year!"
Yuto woke with a start. He stared at his ceiling for a while, remembering his dream.
It wasn't much of a dream, it was a memory.
Yuto smiled, reminiscing.
He checked his clock. It was ten o'clock at night. He didn't really know why he suddenly woke up, but he wasn't sleepy anymore.
He stood up and stretched. Their room was quiet. Raiya was fast asleep. It seems he was the only one awake in the house.
Yuto decided to go to their veranda. Maybe look at the sky... count the stars, and maybe sleep will come visit him again.
He took a jacket and wore it. It was cold now. Winter was definitely on its way.
Yuto also took his IPod and headphones before going out. Some music may help lull him back to sleep.
It was a clear night; the stars and the moon visible from above.
It was a beautiful night.
Yuto stared at the sky for a while, and then he smiled.
It’s time.
He didn't really know how he knew but it has always been like this. He just has this feeling when it's coming.
He went back inside their room and quickly changed.
He suddenly wanted to see her.
He went downstairs, got his coat and proceeded outside their house.
Her house was only a short distance away.
He looked once up the sky and then hurried with his strides.
In no time, he was in front of her house.
And now he realized what time it was. Obviously she was already asleep.
Yuto sighed, 'Smooth, Yuto...' he chided himself.
But he didn't really wanna let this pass and so he marched up his courage and went around the house.
He stared at Suzuka's window. The light was off, and the curtains were close.
She really was already asleep.
Yuto looked around for something and found a small stone.
'Well, here goes nothing.' he thought and then he threw the small stone to her window.
It made a sound but it wasn't that loud. "Suzu!" he called.
No answers.
He tried again. He picked up a little stone and threw it to her window.
"Suzuka!" he called in a louder voice.
This time the light went on and Suzuka, who seems to have just woken up, peeked through her window.
Yuto tentatively wave, smiling nervously.
Suzuka's eyes widen and gestured for him to wait. Yuto nodded. As Suzuka went, Yuto move back to the front of their house.
In less than a minute, Suzuka was already there with him.
"Yuto!" she gasped, "What are you doing here at this time of the night? Is everything okay?"
Yuto then realized that Suzuka was in her pajamas.
He blushed.
Not that the pajama was revealing or anything... it was just a simple sando blouse and jogging pants.
But seeing her like that was just... intimate for Yuto.
He wished Suzuka would think the blush was just because of the cold.
Yuto tried to smiled, "Y-yeah, everything's great. I just wanted to show you something."
Suzuka visibly relax. "I thought something terrible happened." she sighed. "What is it? Can't it wait?"
"No, it can't." Yuto said. "Can you go out? It's just close by."
Suzuka looked at him for a long time.
And then she sighed. "Fine Nakajima, I'll just go and change."
Yuto beamed at her. "Yey!"
Suzuka gave him a small smile, seeming unable to resist. "Go inside first, it's cold."
Yuto followed her inside and stayed in their living room.
He looked around while waiting and smiled at the many picture frames on top of their grand piano.
There was a picture of Suzuka's family, a picture of baby Suzuka, a picture of middle school Suzuka, a picture of Suzuka in Hollywood, a picture of their class... of her and the girls... of her and Mirai...
"Sorry for the wait." Suzuka said and Yuto glanced at her.
He shook his head and said. "Sorry for intruding so late."
"Well, what else can I expect from you?" Suzuka said jokingly, and Yuto laughed.
They went out Suzuka's house and Yuto lead to wherever they were going.
"Where are we going?" Suzuka asked aloud.
"Just over by the hills." Yuto answered. "The green bin..."
Suzuka didn't really know what is it he wanted to show her by the green bin... what could it be that he'd go to her house at, Suzuka looked at her watch, eleven at night?
Soon, Suzuka could already see the green bin.
There wasn't anything special about it though.
They approached it and then Yuto said, "Let's go up."
"Up?" Suzuka asked.
"Up the green bin." Yuto said as if this was obvious.
Suzuka looked at him as if he'd just lost his mind.
'Maybe he did.' Suzuka mused.
But Yuto just laughed. "Come on, Suzu. It's better if we're higher."
"What are we going to do there?" Suzuka asked.
"It's a surprise." Yuto said. "I promise you'll like it." he said.
Suzuka looked at him, hard. And for the nth time, she sighed. She give up, she really wouldn't know what goes on in this boy's head.
"Help me climb." she said. Yuto nodded.
Suzuka held onto the bin's handle and carefully climb up. But then she slipped, but she'd regain her hold almost immediately, and Yuto was there to support her weight.
"Yuto, if I fall, you'd better catch me." Suzuka said.
Yuto blushed. He knew Suzuka meant it in a literal way but the words she used can mean another thing.
On her second try, she'd climb successfully. Yuto followed suit. It seems he'd climb here before, as he seems to be very used to it.
"Okay, what now?" Suzuka asked.
Yuto smiled and pointed to her back.
She turned around and gasped.
It was a very beautiful scene. The view of the city from there, the little lights, the bright stars and the half moon, it was like a scene from a movie.
"Wow..." Suzuka said.
Yuto smiled even wider and then he said. "Just a bit more."
Suzuka looked at him, "There's more?"
He nodded. "Yama-chan and I always go here every year. We'd always watch it here." he said wistfully.
"In middle school we were in different schools but we still wanted to go home together so we meet here after our class. This green bin is in the middle of my and Yama-chan's school." He continued.
Yuto looked to his right and pointed. Suzuka looked to where he pointed and saw a small building. "I went to school there before. But it's close now."
Suzuka slowly nodded. And then she looked back at Yuto. "What is it that you watched?"
Yuto smiled and then he looked up the sky.
"It's here." he said pointing up.
Suzuka looked up and was mesmerized.
"Hatsuyuki." Yuto said.
"So beautiful..." she whispered.
Suzuka watched the soft snow fall.
Snowflakes falling on them.
All around them, tiny flakes were glistening like they were crystals.
Snowflakes swirling with never-ending harmony.
"It's so beautiful, Yuto." she said.
"Aren't they?" he said, also staring at the flakes.
"Look, Suzuka..." he said and pointed at the city.
It was like a work of painting. They watched as the snowflakes drifted around the city, slowly covering the streets with white sheet.
"Thanks for bringing me here." Suzuka said.
"No problem." Yuto said. "I wanted you to see."
"How did you know today's the first snow?" Suzuka asked, curious.
Yuto shrugged. "I don't really know. Just a hunch. Yama-chan always uses me as his personal meteorologist. He loves watching the first snow. We always watch together."
Suzuka smiled.
"So Yamada-kun is watching this, too, huh? But why isn't he here?"
Yuto's eyes widen.
"Oh crap, he's gonna kill me."
"You forgot to tell him." Suzuka said in a statement. And then she laughed.
