* TNG Rewatch, Season 5:
- I, Borg. This revisits both Picard and Guinan's trauma and the theme of personhood and associated rights that in previous seasons centered on the much more sympathetic Data. The debate as to whether the Borg is a person or a weapon is an important one. I think it's interesting that Deanna Troi and Beverly Crusher are on opposite sides on this one. I can't help but notice Picard's use of "it" vs. Crusher's use of "he," and all that implies. It is harder to kill someone you call by name. This is the other side of the coin in things like "Measure of a Man." The thing is that the ethics here are so much muddier. Picard's interrogation of Hue while pretending to be Locutus is creepy and beautifully designed. I think it's important not to forget that Picard remembers all of his abuse. Doesn't the knowledge of self briefly exist in the Collective every time anyone is assimilated? Why would this be different?
