* 19 people were shot in a Mother's Day Parade in New Orleans. Everyone is expected to survive. As it happened to women and children in a city rather than a suburb or small town, the media hardly noticed.

Honestly, I think if a 501C4 endorses a particular candidate it needs it's status yanked regardless of whether I agree with the candidate or not. I think we need to stop letting political organizations on both sides abuse this law for electioneering and the extra scrutiny to applications needs to be proportional. Unfortunately, I think that the opposite will happen as a result of this scandal.

* Gov. Rick Scott closes a school for the rest of the year because saving .1% of the rainy day budget is vastly more important than fulfilling the constitutional requirement of providing another six weeks of education. After all, 91% of the kids are so poor they need free or reduced lunch so making sure they are fed or educated is a waste of money to Republican thinking.:

* Today I did a bunch of stuff relating to circular swaps. This may seem like no work at all, but involved going out in the pouring rain to get flat rate mailers and do some shopping for the UK folks. At home I put boxes together, did a second sort on the sweets and tea swaps. Then I discovered a box went missing on my end rather than the sender's and started trying to figure out what happened. I have the UK Sweets and the Hot Drinks box ready to go, plus open boxes for Just Tea and the US Sweets Swap leg. (I'm splitting the sweets swap into two legs as mailing the whole collection is wicked expensive with the new shipping rates. This way, I'm only sending stuff the UK folks are likely to want and vica versa. I flat rate 2-3x as much once for the US folks). Tomorrow I try to get real sleep, as there was little sleep to be had at the cat asylum. Hopefully, I'll have enough energy for doing game prep before online rp time, but I'm not holding my breath there.

* I finished season 2 of Boardwalk Empire. I'm going to be vague, but I'm putting it under a spoiler cut just in case. I mentioned I have been team Chalky from the moment I saw him. I am also firmly Team Harrow, just generally. I rather wish there was a touch more Chalky, but I appreciate the ways the show got into his psychology. Richard Harrow broke my heart, and the things they did with him? Ouch. In both cases the acting is amazing and I really like that even when the characters do terrible things you get why. As horrifying as Gillian is, she makes sense by her lights. I never much liked Jimmy Darmody, but I really appreciated the psychological design of him. I was pretty sure they were going where they were going the second to last episode, but I honestly was hoping they wouldn't. The way things went in the final episode for all the characters? That felt right. That goes even for the things I was hoping wouldn't happen before they did. Character wise and narratively, they just made sense, from Nucky and Margaret's decisions to all the rest. The psychological arcs were oh so satisfying. I'm not big on organized crime stories, but oh am I a sucker for psychologically complex characters and delicately powerful acting. The acting here from the background players to featured performers is so good that mentioning everyone is impossible. I am still prone to being mesmerized by details of architecture, costuming, and set design, but I am less distracted by how right they are.
