assorted stuff

i spent most of today (a) eating and (b) watching tv in bed. i was supposed to go out and meet friends tonight, but i don't have a car and my parents still don't allow me to take cab rides alone. sheesh, it's not like i'm twelve ;(

i miss my honda. it'll be arriving tuesday night.

arrived in qc tuesday night, after spending the summer in la union. i got a new laptop over the summer, smaller and more lightweight than my old ibm. and a credit card, although i haven't been able to have fun with it yet, since everything i've charged so far is stuff my mom ordered me to buy.

my mom opened her bakeshop/restaurant/cafe may 24th, so i spent my last couple of weeks in la union helping waitress/driving the chef around so he could buy stuff for the kitchen. my mom's not really a business person or restaurateur by training, so opening week was crazy. i mean, equipment was breaking down and the service wasn't exactly great, so everyone, including my sisters and i, had to help out.

i never thought i'd say this, but waitressing was kinda hard. not just the taking-down-a-gazillion-orders-during-peak-hours part, but also having to say hi and smile all the time, even when people act like you don't exist. sure, it doesn't matter, but i guess first instinct tells you that it does. and kant's ethics about treating people not only as means but always as ends comes flooding back to mind. which is why i am so glad i made it a habit a couple of years ago to smile back at restaurant service crew and salespeople in the mall.

anyhoo, the place is really nice. the cafe's painted in rich maroon and dark blue, with light green for contrast, and there are lots of comfy sofas and chick wood-and-glass coffee tables. it's really conducive for reading a good book or laptop work like updating your lj, but i haven't gotten to do those things yet, because everytime i sit there, someone comes rushing in with an errand for me to do.

our place is located right in the middle of town, in front of the plaza (yes, we still do have a town plaza), where there are lots of people. i like watching them come in. the late night people (aka 10pm to 11pm in la union) kinda remind me of me, since whenever we had to stay up late doing orgwork in college, it was usually over coffee (hmmm...i miss college *teardrops*). but but by ten o' clock, when we close our doors, the plaza across the street is empty and there are only one or two tables still occupied in the restaurant, by people enjoying a final cup of coffee before they go home. well, so much for the late-night crowd...hehe.

also, a couple of friends from high school have dropped by. hey lorraine, dennis, mitzi!

i cannot believe i'm going to med school already. it doesn't look very comfy. everything's gray, and when you get out of the building, you can see cars whizzing past you on the street already. but the restrooms are okay. woohoo. (clean restrooms are a very big deal for me.)

anyhoo, i'm kinda excited to do something which involves thinking again. although i hope i'll still have time to do normal things, like going out and watching movies and shopping and stuff.
