Wow, has it been nearly two weeks since I've been on here? *checks calender* Yes, yes it has.
So, I got bored (I did NOT feel like doing my online homework) and read some news that J. K. Rowling is coming out with a new book that's not Harry Potter. I knew this was happening, but it really wasn't in the forefront of my mind. But I'm admittedly intrigued to read the book, not because she wrote Harry Potter, but because I want to see the departure from her first series, which leads me to a confession.
Confession: I'm not that huge of Harry Potter. In fact, I think that The Dresden Files series is a much better wizarding series.*Waits patiently to get flamed* It's not that I did not like the Harry Potter books--I enjoyed them a lot-- but what drove me bonkers in the series was how the magic of Harry Potter had no system. And by that, I mean a logical process to the magic. Yes, there are rules to the Harry Potter series like the Unforgivable Curses, but otherwise, it feels very fantastical and haphazard, and at points, illogical, IMO. Which is fine for an escapist read, but I'm very weird about that sort of think. I was the kid in math class that asks why certain things the way they are, not just accepting it as it is.
The Dresden Files are very different. They are rules, certain processes and systems taking place in the books. Magic is magic yes, but systemic magic is much better, because to me it makes sense, like I'm capable of practicing that magic myself. I like both series, but I like Harry Dresden more.
Yeah, rant done.
And in other news, I saw the leaked images of the Pokemon Black and White sequels. I'm stoked. First off, it is a direct sequel to the original ones, although one could argue that Silver/Gold were sequels to Red/Blue, taking place two years after the events of Black/white, and Unove looks like it is in the grips of an apocalypse. Seriously, the map of Unova looks like its being taken over by a gigantic glacier and there are supposedly craters. I think 12-21-2012 came early for them lol. They have all new characters,--I like the first Black/White chick better though, she looked like she could kick your butt--, new gyms(water and poison, among them), a new rival, and an expanded pokedex, including the pokemon on those other routes you couldn't see until after the main story(which had, among other things, riolu, eevee, tyranitar and metagross, among other). I'm so going to troll the Elite Four with these guys. Plus, I cannot wait for Kyurem's backstory. I love him, my derpy, starfish/t-rex, dragon hybrid :). I want a kyurem plushie, BTW, just to mess with my friend.
As for the comic books, I have an uncle who is finally getting his comic book series published. It's called Dr. Goyle and its pretty cool. But here's the cool part, you can help him get published. If you go to a site called kickstarter.com, you can donate/pledge money to help him out and if you donate more than certain thresholds, he'll do certain things, like include you as a background character, get free t-shirts and things like that. Don't worry though, he is not making any money off of this venture, so you're not being scammed. The money is going towards publishing costs and paying his colorist, not himself. So go visit him and be a character in the story. for example, a friend of his, who runs a no-kill cat shelter donated some money and not only will they have a cameo, my uncle's putting in an ad about his friend's shelter. Cool huh?
For the record, I'm being in the story too, my mum's donating money to him as well. Not quite sure what I'll be, but I think I'm some sort of dragon queen C:
So, I think I fulfilled my quota of journal entries today. Ta-ta for now!
