graduation weekend plus gross out.

Last week was senior week at Cornell and three of our neighbors got arrested. They were throwing fireworks at cars, and after the police showed up and gave them a ticket, as the cops were driving away one of the neighbors yelled "whore" at a female officer. So, the cops called for back up and like 5 cars showed up. These kids are all pretty rich and pretty caucasian, and didn't seem to know that getting in a cops face and yelling drunkenly is a sure recipe to get arrested. So three of them got arrested (cuffed, into the back of the car, etc). The best part was
1)They claimed they had no idea why they were getting arrested
2)One of their dads was sitting there with them on the sidewalk in front of their porch the whole time.
Sorry, it was a tie for "best." One of my housemates was sympathetic to the neighbors, but I pointed out the homeless guy sanity check: would a homeless guy get arrested for doing what they were doing? Probably.

Also, yesterday a housemate and I went on a "walk" in one of Cornell's protected areas. There was no trail really and after descending through some thick brush we mainly just walked along the side of a very slippery stream (clamoring up a couple of very slippery small falls). We found a deer skull (and other bones), a salamander, a dead craw fish, and my friend cut herself sliding down a smallish sloped waterfall. After the rest of a long day I was about to go to bed when I discovered (get ready, it's pretty gross) I had gotten my first tick. He was pretty big and had burrowed into my side right below the band of my bra. There is something extremely alarming about the back half of a bug with a bunch of legs sticking into a discolored circle of your skin. I was too grossed out to pull it out myself, so I made my friend do it. Not quite all of it came out, but it looks about the same this morning so hopefully it will not get any worse. I really miss the northwest, where somehow in 20 years I never managed to have anything this gross happen.
