I realized a few days ago when a friend asked me where I bought my region free DVD player, that this is something not many people know about.  Many DVD players now days have the capability of being unlocked to become region-free. This means that you can play DVD from around the world on a DVD player you bought in the US. Yes, that includes your favorite Johnnies DVDs.

As for me, I was able to buy a $30 DVD player from Target and unlock it to play all my concert DVDs. And it only took me 20 seconds to do it.

So how do you do it?

1) First, find the model of your DVD player (this is usually located on the back or underside of your DVD player). You will also need the remote control that came with it.

2) Once you know the model number, go to this site:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
and do a search for your make and model number.

Please keep in mind that not EVERY DVD player has this capability. You can always go to a website like Target.com, look at the models they have and search the videohelp website and see if a hack exists for it. Target.com also will let you look to see if the model is available in a store near you.

This is the model that I own, and I can say 100% that the hack absolutely worked on it:
http://www.target.com/Philips-Compact-Size-DVD-Player/dp/B000OQYXMG/ref=br_1_3?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=668547011&node=668547011&searchRank=price&searchPage=1&searchSize=30&id=Philips%20Compact%20Size%20DVD%20Player

3) Then, you just follow the steps listed in the code provided on videohelp, and within minutes you should be able to watch your favorite Johnnies DVDs. Please keep in mind that Japanese DVDs are all Region 2, so you will either need to change your DVD player to region 2 or region 0 (so that it can play ANY DVD).

Also as a side note, I don't know how well the NTSC to PAL conversion is. As both US and Japan are NTSC countries, I have never had to deal with it. If you are hoping to play PAL DVDs on your player, please do not get mad at me if they don't work. I have never tried them.

I also don't know if this is helpful for people outside of Canada/U.S. I suppose as long as your DVD player model is listed on videohelp.com it should be able to work. But again, don't quote me on this.

Also, these technically are hacks, and therefore, they are not exactly legal. All of these should be reversible though.

So there you have it. Most of the hacks are extremely easy, and all together this process should be very short and very painful.

Feel free to share this information around the Johnnies communities. Credit is appreciated, but not necessary.
