I hired dog walkers once a week to help keep River active since Small Boy went to college. I noticed soon after they started, so maybe in December, that she had a limp in her right rear leg after going out with them. She'd rest up and be fine and then the next week the limp would be back. It's what I would call either "sugaring season" or "the dog shit days of March" here.  A couple of nights ago we had a gully-washer of a thunderstorm. Vast amounts of water fell from the sky, the steeple at 2nd Congo was hit by lightening, and the road in the park turned to solid mud.  Yesterday it was in the 50's and I avoided the park because I ( Read more... )

I am having trouble with my weight lately.( TMI )

Small Boy's bus now comes 20 minutes earlier, so we have to be out the door at 7 AM. It's hard going for my daily two mile walk in the park on gloomy days so soon after dawn.  This morning it was raining.  I don't really care if it's raining: I wear a raincoat and I can change my shoes when I get home, but it does make the air sort of clammy to ( Read more... )

One of the reasons I'm so out of shape is that Ela was too sick to go running this year.  I just didn't have the heart to go for a run in the park without her, somehow.   But River is six months old now, and Small Boy is going out for the cross country team this fall, so yesterday we resumed our regular runs in the park.

I went out for a jog at lunch-time today.  I did the XC course clockwise.  It's so very different to run it backwards!  Many more long downhills that way!  I went down the hill and came back via Serenity Pass.  No mud to speak of.  Noticed the uphill at the end, though ( Read more... )
