I planned to have a three day weekend on the island, but events conspired to make me work a half day, then further events conspired to make me miss the 5:30 ferry, meaning I had to wait until the evening ferry schedule. Grumble grumble.
But just now, as I went to board the ferry, I pushed my reading glasses onto my head and grabbed my driving glasses and it got me: I am not functionally blind. Thanks to the eye surgeries (plus another procedure), with one set of custom glasses I can see four feet and closer, and with another I can see four feet and farther.
I sometimes imagine what my life would be like if I had lived in an era that didn't cure blindness. Probably wouldn't be driving onto an island with a car loaded up with gourmet foods and books and plants.
So, yeah. I missed a ferry. There was another one in less than two hours. I am an incredibly lucky woman.
