Things I discovered today

Sasha worked five hours today. It's March 16th, so more than two solid months after we hired her. Guess what I discovered today?

She hasn't been duplex scanning things that are double-sided. She has been trained on a high-speed duplex scanner and one of her main job duties is to scan tax prep source docs into our filing cabinet. There are roughly 100 tax returns in process, and she has probably scanned about half of them (since scanning/scut work largely fell to her.) Most things aren't double-sided. I'm just going to have to double check all scanning for anyone still in process and let the 80 that are final and out the door recede into history as best we can.

But, wait, there's more.

Today I also discovered that she hasn't been hitting "Save" after she key-punches returns. My Angel Organizer figured that one out, because she kept thinking that some data entry had been done but then it wasn't and she dove down to try to get to the bottom of the mystery. Turns out that Sasha was doing data entry, marking things as data entered, and then closing the software without saving. Like it was a Google doc that automatically saves.

Two months. I've been employing this person for TWO MONTHS.

You have no idea how zen I am about this. I'm actually really really cool with this. Because this means that seasonal tax prep help is actually ZERO HELP WHATSOEVER, and that means that I don't need to ever hire another one again.

My life is looking up.

Excuse me while I go back to work now, because I have a shit-ton of work to do.
