Just some quick random thoughts, because I don't have much time for anything lately and don't want to end up not posting about the episode at all again. :)
[Here there be SPOILERS] I love Catherine! So. Much. She's great with Steve, she's great with the team, she's carrying her own weight, she fits in seamlessly everywhere, she doesn't intrude on Steve-Danny moments, and she's got great survival instincts where dealing with Steve's mom is concerned. ;-) Not to mention that I'm sure she's deadly with a baseball bat. :D Frankly, I don't think I'd mind her even becoming a part of Five-0 anymore, even though I was strictly against this idea before. I like seeing her with Chin and Kono and I'd love getting to see some Cath-Kono scenes. :)
Doris is great. I'll never have any reason to ever miss Joe as long as she's around. ;P If she goes on like that, she really deserves a nomination for the worst-mom-of-the-year (okay, the century) award. She's really good at never finding herself on the defensive, because she always strikes first. Great tactic and so far, it seems to work just fine on everyone. There's no way I could like her right now (if ever), but her character is a great addition to the show. Poor, poor Steve! Somehow, I don't think she's in danger from Wo Fat anymore - I think she's struck some kind of deal with him, though I have no idea why he'd ever be willing to do that, considering she's Shelburne. I can't wait to see more of this particular story arc (what the hell is on that filmstrip?!)!
I really, really, really LOVED the Steve-Danny scene at the end. Danny realizing Steve's not okay and Steve letting him in and telling him what's going on - and, of course, the final question and Steve's "no" as an answer. Just give me one scene like that every episode and I'll be happy! ♥ Besides, I'm also relieved Steve doesn't believe his mom and doesn't give in to her emotional manipulations, though I'm sure I can't even begin to imagine how hard this must be on him. To lose his mom the way he did, then get her back, only to realize he can't trust her... *wibbles*
The case... frankly, I'm trying to forget all about it as fast as I can, except perhaps for the beautiful horses. ;-) I really don't need shock effects like that first scene and I'm fed up with beheaded corpses and not really tasteful jokes about said corpses by now. That may, admittedly, be due to my own sensitivities. I also have to say I knew who was going to be the killer from the moment the son showed up for the first time, even though I had no idea why. One thing I did like was Steve's reaction to finding out the son was the killer and not the victim in the end. I guess what they had to face there was even worse than what he had gone through with his own father's kidnapping and murder.
I did like the psychic because she was such a charismatic character. The reactions of Danny and Kono to her confused me a bit - I would have expected them to be exactly the other way around, especially remembering a certain Halloween episode. But since human beings and their beliefs often don't make sense, I'm perfectly willing to accept things as they are and mull over that scene for a while longer. ;-)
All in all, this ep had several scenes I loved, although it won't ever be one of my fav episodes thanks to the blood and gore effects.
