So about 2 weeks ago or so the CEO of Odyssey House started asking for inventories of hardware and what exactly we maintain on all the servers. My boss suggested I get a new job asap since it seemed like at least one of us was getting fired, most likely him.
My boss claimed he was doing the same, but I am pretty sure he urged me to save his own ass. But I had no future there and I had been looking for a while. So a week of applying for about 100 different jobs (not an exaggeration) and about 4 interviews at various places I was finally offered a job at West Jefferson Medical Center. The pay was slightly more and the benefits were crazy good.
Before I accepted, I interviewed for a job at Stennis, but the way was not enough to cover the commute. So I quit OHL and took Mardi Gras week off and went to to WJMC's orientation on the 14th of March.
So I just got back from orientation. It was a full 8.5 hours of orientation, so much crap was covered and most of it had nothing to do with me or I was already trained in it from my previous jobs. I did find out about fitness center benefits and cafeteria dining costs today.
At the Cafeteria I can scan my id badge and I get the cost taken out of my paycheck before taxes. The same happens with Fitness Center. Dues are $20 per paycheck, but every time you go to the gym 9 times (for over 30 minutes) I get a free month. This cycles every 6 months and I can gain months during free months. So after 6 months of paying my gym membership is free, so long as I accumulate enough free months. But again, when I do have to pay it's taken out of my check before taxes. Take that Uncle Sam!
Now I have to figure how much I want to stick in my retirement account every month. The cool thing is I can opt in to the retirement program anytime I want. But I am opting in asap.
Hopefully all these benefits will offset the stress I think I am going to encounter. I had to preform tech support like 2 times at orientation and the lecturers were mumbled "Wow someone in IT who does something." But then again I've never had a stress-free job in my entire life.
