So the Pens won!

I watched the Stanley Cup playoffs, and it was really about the only Hockey I've watched this year.  It's not that I don't enjoy the sport, but I think the regular season is just to damn long.  The Playoffs, which only 16 teams make can last 1/3 of the regular season.  You have 4 series of up to 7 games against to win the silverware.

It's a lot of hockey.

But this was a great series for a lot of reasons.  One guy turned down a multi-million a year contract with the Pens to play withDetroit.  The fact that the Red Wings bested Pittsburgh last year, on their home ice.  The fact that it was back and forth exciting hockey where the refs could have and probably were told "Don't call a damn thing."

Pittsburgh being written off since they were in 10th place, then changing coaches and fighting their way into the final home ice advantage spot.

I'm sure the Hollywood hacks are banging on their typewriters now, and I'm wondering if I should include a link to Wikipedia to explain what a typewriter is for the younger readers out there.

But generally I'm happy that the Pens won, this is the cup for those guys and girls that are in their twenties.   I'm from the generation that remembers Sly Apps, "Battleship" Bob Kelly, and my personal favorite - Jean "Hit the post!" Pronovost.   So the Cup in the early 90's was mine to hold so to speak.  I still remember being up at 4 AM, still drunk off my ass watching the highlights, and seeing my father nurse a hangover the next day as well.

So am I happy?  Yes.   Proud?  Yes.

It's nice to see Pittsburgh as the city of champions again.  Now if only the Hounds would pull their heads out of their ass and play some winning soccer!
