Friday, February 6 is National Wear Red Day, a day when people across the U.S. will wear red to show support for women’s heart disease awareness. In recognition of this day, Gibson General cheap viagra will offer heart screenings for women from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the hospital’s Health & Education Room.

For $25, women will be screened for body mass index (BMI), blood sugar and cholesterol levels, have an electrocardiogram (EKG), and get their blood pressure checked. Women will also be provided educational materials regarding diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Fasting is required, but a free continental breakfast will be available at the screening event.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women. According to the Indiana State Department of Health, during the most recent data year of 2006, heart disease was the cause in 38 percent of female deaths and claimed the lives of 158 more women than men. Left untreated, heart disease can lead to disability and a decreased quality of life, but knowing levels (blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure) and assessing risk factors is the first step to reducing the chance of getting heart disease.

Space is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register, call 812-385-9485 by January 30.
