Well, it’s another Monday and what a fun day it is. I got my first Jewelry assignment graded and got an A-. The teacher and I both thought there was more I could have done with it, but overall it was nice. I’m looking forward to our next project which involves making chains out of wire. My teacher says I can try something out since I’ve done jewelry stuff before.
And as promised I have pictures of my first piece. The problem is the batteries in my camera were dead so I had to use my cell phone to take the pictures so they’re not that great. I cleaned them up as best I could but they’re not the greatest. Still, they’re not bad.
This is the piece from the front. I have an obsession with feathers for some reason and when I heard the details of the project this idea started forming in my head. It’s the shape and texture of feathers that I really like so I simplified that and made it into a pendant.
The back piece is copper, the front brass. Both have been antiqued with liver of sulfur. They’re simply riveted together, no solder in this.

This is the back of the piece. If I could do this piece over again one of the things I’d do is put another thinner brass feather on the back, give the whole piece a more three dimensional feel, add some real depth. I’d do more with the texture too, but really what I’d like is to add that second brass feather.
---
This is the top of the piece, you can see the rivet holding on the brass feather and the piece the pendant will hang from. That hanging piece was something new, I had never made something like that before so it didn’t turn out that perfect but I’m glad I know how to do it now.

And this is the bottom of the piece. I really like how it turned out, even if there is more I can do with it. I’m satisfied with it and I’m satisfied with the grade I got for it too. I think the next piece will be better, though it might be worse since I’m trying lots of new things. It doesn’t matter though, I know I’ll have fun either way.
