ive decided to write about something happy today. it seems like this journal became more of an emotional dump than i planned it to be. now here we go. i bet u guys wondered wtf the thing in the background is, so I decided to intoduce to you, my baby:
This is my wild water kayak. Its name is "Burlie". I have several reasons to name it this way, and u can only understand it when u know me well beyond well and also know how to pronounce the word in german. lets just say the name reminds me of something beautiful. beautiful, is also the art it represents. originally iam a canoe-polo player. im not gonna lie, i was good. i played in the all state team in germany in my 3rd and 4th year. we won both years. unfortunatly we moved to the US, so i wasnt able to follow my fav. sport in the world anymore. there is canoe polo in the us, but not in florida. so thats how i came to own this beauty. burlie is a liquid logig kayak designed for wild water kayaking. this edition is sevral inches longer than the normal session model, its a session +. its lower plane is therefor longer which gives it the ability to glide faster on inclined water. now count 1 and 1 together and you know what im doing with this boat in florida. surfing :-D in canoe polo its not really necessary to get into the techniques of kayaking so i came upon my new hobby with only the basic boat skills. i dont fall, i can roll i can go straight. ^.^ (thats funny...) anyways. last summer break i went to NC, near the smokey mountains and had one hell of a nice kayak trip for 2 weeks. i went down a river i didnt scout before and when i came to its end my mother was waiting there with Jonas ( a pic of him is down the page in case u dont know who that is.) and said that there was 1 (ONE) more rapid a lil farther down. so yea, i went down and all of the sudden the river ended in a white mist cloud. k, now i need to teach u some wild water rules. rapids are clssified from 1-5. 1 is a nice little ride, on 3 you get really wet and probably shouldnt try to get a rapid level 3 without kayak skillz. then theres rapid 5. if u cant kayak and didnt go down numerous rivers before you WILL injure yourself on this ride. ok
so i go down into the white mist cloud and just start falling. my boat eventually hit 3 or 4 stones and i got lucky i already had a couple days of experience, so i must say it was actually quite a fun ride. when i looked the rapid up on the river map it was designated with a big black skull on red background, considered a rapid level 6. after that it didnt quite feel like a funride anymore. a couple of people had watched me go down the rapid and congratualted me on surviving it. (met some AWESOME dudes there) man we had a shitload of fun. theres nothing like a fire in a cold night with 4 guys and 3 girls u dont know, but u can talk about 1 common interest with a couple of beers. good times. hmm, makes me kinda sad though. i want to have some people that i can talk to just like that. no worries about offending anybody, without all the bullshit. just straight up fun. which reminds me im going to see our german guests tomorrow again. they went to miami on their harley trip and we'll have a bunch of nice cigars from cuba = ) *excitement*
i find it is actually somewhat comforting to focus on the enjoyable parts of life. u just have to try harder.
anyways. Burlie and I are probably going out this weekend. which brings me back to kayak surfing. im not that good at it yet. after my 2 weeks in NC i could do some nice tricks in the waves of a white water river, like making a backflip and such. good stuff. but waves on the ocean are soemwhat different. im not gonna go in the physical difference of flowing and standing water now, so take my word for it. im getting better though. well. it was enjoyable writing this. ima go to sleep now.
