Saw Watchmen Sunday night with
tringa and another friend, preceded by large beers at Vinny Testa's. Sometimes I love the suburbs. The movie was long and brutal but still very satisfying. It would have been very easy for Snyder to make this a "comic book" movie without the layers, but he managed to hit all the themes very nicely, I thought. I didn't really miss any of the bits from the book that were left out. Yes, some of the violence made me wince, but that was the point. Life is ugly. People do bad things. Despite this, I didn't find it depressing at all. It was art, and it elevated the human condition while simultaneously exposing its brutish roots. And that's as film school wonky as I'll get with it.
In other news, I am working on two projects simultaneously but am not overwhelmed yet. One I can't really talk about right now, but the other is
Ruby's Bequest. I'm happy to be working with such folks as
entelein again (I'll let the others out themselves first.) Drop by and tell us a story.
