More precisely, at this time, lack of a job. Which, while not unexpected, happened a bit sooner that anticipated.
Around the first of November last year (2009) we received notice that the long since announced* move of my group was going to happen. All members of the group received job offers in Peachtree. We had until the end of November to accept or decline the job offer. The job would start March 30th in Peachtree. The Better Half and I had discussed this when the move was first announced and had then decided not to move. We did re-discus the move after I received the official job offer. And again decided not to move**.
So, being a good employee, I filled in the paperwork and submitted it to my boss. My thinking was the sooner management knows that I am not going the sooner they can look for a qualified replacement. And management would not have to rush to hire someone. And I could train the person who replaced me***. Sounded like a good plan and the best course of action.
I soon found out (again) that logic has little affect on corporate decisions. Since our group was limited to a certain number of people, my replacement could not be hired until I was no longer with the company. So much for me training the person. So, rather than having one person with limited availability to handle calls right then, after the move there would be one person not able to take calls (the new hire) and one person with limited call taking (the person training the new hire). And, if the new person was not immediately hired, then the group would be short a person until someone was hired and trained.
Of course (this with 20-20 hindsight) the same policy mandated that if my replacement was hired, I would be let go. Which is what happened. There was a Reduction In Force (RIF) at another location in Georgia. One of the people that was to be RIF'd was hired to replace me, which meant that I would have to be let go. As it turned out, I was able to spend one day training him. So some of my knowledge was transferred.
As of February 19th I'm again unemployed. If you know of any good jobs in the Columbia area let me know.

* The company announced the intended move of all the jobs in our location to Peachtree City, GA, in October of 2008. The first stated target date for the move was the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2009. This was soon changed to the first half of 2010, then to sometime late 2010. The various groups at our location would have different move dates.
** I may write about our reasoning if anyone's interested. Close family should already be aware of our reasoning.
*** One of the products I supported is a rather complicated piece of electro-mechanical engineering controlled by a PC. It's the electro-mechanical part that most of the technicians have a problem dealing with. And the electro-mechanical part is the cause of most of the service calls in these units.
