We just got into the first really bad cold spell for this winter*. Lows in the lower 20's, highs in the low 40's. Seriously cold for us.
One nice thing about the cold weather is that the skies are clear and calm in the evening. Several nights I've driven home and enjoyed the colors in the sky. The horizon starts at a bright reddish/orange and shdes evenly to a pale reddish orange that changes to a blue, then darkens to the east. Of course the colors depend on how close to sunset it is. Hopefully one day I'll have the time and the equipment to take a picture to do the colors justice.
Among the not so nice things are frozen pipes (the garden irrigation pipes and hoses when we forget to turn off the water outside and drain the pipes), the need to get "bundled-up" before going outside, and not being able to do much work out in the yard (I need my exercise).
