Speaking of exercise activities that also help heel spurs, when I swim regularly, mine go away completely. I'm lucky, as they're not too bad right now, but when I went to Germany in 1999, they were so bad that I could barely do all the walking necessary to live in Europe. It took months to get rid of them, but then I was so happy when they finally went. Mine are ultimately tied directly to weight and movement. High weight, low movement = nasty heel spurs.
Yeah, swimming would be good for me in a number of ways. If only they didn't keep the Colvin Center pool so danged cold...
I developed the spurs at a time when neither my exercise habits or weight had changed, so I'm not sure I can say mine are tied directly to those things. Although, I'm sure that being overweight in general is a contributing factor.
I think the inflammatory arthritis plays a part. My pinky is deformed not because of damage to the joint itself, I'm told, but because of damage to the tendons and ligaments. So, whatever it is I have, it seems to like to attack tendons and things like the plantar facia.
I have a sneaking suspicion that my hip problem may be tendon related, too.
That's a real shame. I know in my case that I can do two specific things, in addition to the stretching exercises, to make it better. I'm glad that the boot is so helpful for you!
