Today I had an elderly woman come to the service desk and sometimes I just feel so ... sad... for them. I don't know the right word. But this poor woman just had to be lonely and isolated. She was returning two shirts that she had bought. She had washed one of them and after getting it out of the wash, she discovered that it "sounds like rustling paper." Well I obliged her and felt the fabric and "rustled" it a little and I nodded (she had her receipt so even if I wanted to, there wasn't anything I could make a fuss over.)
She then went on to tell me about the inner ear infection she has been suffering. How when she gets dizzy and feels like she's going to fall she just stops and spreads her feet apart and it steadies her and she can get her bearings and go on. She told me about how she has heard that with these "inner ear things" you need to get them taken care of quickly and about how her doctor just won't give her a referral to a specialist even though she knows that's what she needs. And she told me about a doctor who was removing her hemmroids with a band thing and how hers were inside and not outside and how she expected they were going to numb the area but they didn't and he kept telling her to be still (I mean seriously... she told me everything.) and ... I really don't know what all. I smiled and nodded and "Oh my"-ed in the appropriate places. I didn't have a line, and I felt like she needed someone to talk to.
I imagine her inner ear infection was probably what was causing the problem with the shirt. I could barely hear anything at all, and it sounded about like the unwashed shirt she also brought back (for fear it would do the same thing since they were the same only different colors). But with her inner ear infection I'm sure sounds were amplified and/or made more irritating.
I didn't know what to do other than just listen to her and smile and try to offer my sympathies. I wanted to be able to sit down with her and maybe have a cup of tea together so she could just talk. But, we couldn't. And she went on to do her shopping.
However, the day didn't end so sweetly. I got a verbal warning for something that happened on Friday.
People have been cashing their income tax checks at the Service Desk. Consequently, I have had to ask for loans several times since I just don't have that much money in my drawer. Apparently on Friday in all the confusion, at one point I stuck a bundle of twenties ($2,000) on the top of my till and forgot to put it actually in the drawer when my drawer finally opened. (The drawer only opens if the transaction is putting cash in, or taking it out. So credit/debit card and shopping card transactions don't open the drawer. Check and cash transactions do. If I was doing a lot of returns back to credit cards or to shopping cards, the drawer wouldn't open. So I could have easily forgotten it was there.) Apparently it got shoved to the back, maybe behind the till. I don't know. And so the drawer was short $2,000. The bundle wasn't found until Monday (but I was off on Monday.)
Doug wasn't making a big deal about it. He said "You just had a boo-boo. Anyone could have done it." But Tammy, the co-manager, not really meanly, but sternly, informed me that it should be a written warning, but since it's the first time they've had any problems with me and it was an honest mistake (a costly honest mistake, but one none the less), it would just be a verbal warning.
Luckily they told me that right before clocking out, so I didn't have that on my conscience all through the day. But it still put me in a poor mood the rest of the day.
I have a couple photo spams. but I'll cut them.
Opalite Pincher, right ear.
Earskin. Left ear. The jewelry that got me interested in stretching.
It's hard to see, but there is a mouse cat toy in one of the food dishes. I thought it was so funny because it was like they were trying to feed themselves... but obviously it wouldn't work. Actually what probably happened is Comedy likes to flip the toy in the air and it probably just landed there. I don't know how many times she's made it land in the water dish accidentally!
