A/N: I have no idea of how police procedures work outside of TV shows. Bear with me.
Chapter 6
Darren didn’t like the inside of the police station. Bryan had pressed charges, and Darren knew how much chatter was going on within the media. Darren leaned his head against the wall, hoping that Chris would understand why he was doing this. “Mr. Criss?” Darren stood, and followed the officer back to her desk.
Darren studied the various items on her desk, and he sat down seconds later. “It says here that you’re being investigated in an assault case.” Darren’s eyes travelled down the paper in the folder, and saw his picture paper-clipped to the top of the folder.
“I know.”
“So why are you here today?”
“I wanted to know if the charges could be dropped if…if it was justified.”
“What do you mean?” The officer picked up a pen and small pad of paper.
“Bryan, he…he was abusing my friend.”
“What do you mean by ‘abusing’?” Darren swallowed, and took a deep breath.
“I mean,” Darren fumbled over his words a little, “sexually.” The officer almost dropped her pen, and she leaned forward.
“Has your friend filed charges?”
“No.” Darren shook his head for emphasis. “He’s so scared, and I don’t know what else to do.”
“Have you witnessed any physical abuse?” Darren swallowed.
“Sort of. I stopped by his place one day, and he was crying. He pulled me inside and led me to the bathroom, where we talked, and I found out that…that he was being abused. I had to hide in the shower because a few minutes later, Bryan came into the bathroom and he…he raped my friend.” Darren swiped at the tears that had started to roll down his face. He knew what he was doing was the right thing to do, but when Chris found out…
Darren left the police station with one goal in mind. He drove to Chris’s house, and sat outside for a few minutes before finally getting up the courage to walk up to the door and knock. The door opened to reveal Chris standing there, and Darren could see that something was wrong. “You shouldn’t be here.” Darren’s eyebrows knotted together, and he whispered,
“Is Bryan here?” Darren hadn’t thought twice to look for Bryan’s car.
“Please just go.” Darren took a step back, and let himself take in Chris’s appearance. His jeans were wrinkled, the button undone, the blue U of M hoodie he was wearing was riding up, and there were the beginnings of what was going to be a nasty bruise forming on his hip.
“Come with me.”
“I…I can’t.” Darren reached forward to grab Chris’s hand, and he met Chris’s gaze.
“I’m not leaving you here alone.” Darren pulled Chris outside, shut the door, and slipped his phone out of his back pocket.
“What are you doing?” Darren shook his head, and dialed a number.
“9-1-1, what is your emergency?”
