Chapter 5

Darren swallowed hard, and watched as Chris moved to straddle him. It was too much, way too soon, and as Chris dipped his head down, Darren freaked.

“Chris, no. We can’t…I can’t…” Darren had to physically move Chris back to his original spot on the couch, and he got up, pacing a little.

“What is it?”

“It’s too soon. Bryan’s still hanging over your head, and I…I don’t want to hurt you.” Chris looked up at Darren, eyes trying to focus on him, and Darren swallowed hard. “If we kissed, things would get too out of control, and I don’t want that. I’d end up hurting you.” Chris tapped his fingers against his knees, and leaned forward a bit to stare up at Darren through his lashes.

“I just want to forget.”

It was three days later on a Monday when Darren walked onto set. He half expected Chris to be hovering outside his trailer, as he always does on Mondays, too chipper and bright that early in the morning.

Darren had spent his weekend trying to stay out of Chris’s personal space, and when Chris had moved back to his house, Darren had moped for twelve hours straight. He slipped into Blaine’s headspace easily enough, and he closed his eyes to take a nap while the makeup artist smoothed his shade of foundation onto his skin. He’d found that hair was always a good idea to take care of first, and as Darren sat in the chair, he reached up to push the strand of hair that was always in his eyes out of the way when he remembered that it was gelled up and out of the way.

Sighing, he leaned back in the chair. Once he was on his way to the McKinley set, he spotted Chris lingering behind the cameras, and Darren’s eyebrows knotted together. Chris looked skinnier than he had on Friday, and Darren wondered for a brief second if Chris had been eating. “Chris.”

“Hey, Darren.”

“Have you not been eating?” Chris looked at Darren, the briefest flash of fear crossing his face.

“No, why would you think that?”

“You look…skinnier.”

“Have you seen the wardrobe for Kurt lately? I can’t fit into those pants on a good day.” The assistant director called for places, and Darren was forced to pretend like he was ignoring the lie. After they finished filming the scene, he went to his trailer, intent on calling Bryan. Instead, he grabbed his keys and went to his car to drive to Chris’s house.

Once he was there, he flicked through the keys until he found the spare for Chris’s house. Quietly unlocking the door, he shut it behind him with a soft click, and he felt like the click was loud in the stillness of the house. He went through the rooms, and he stopped at the door to Chris’s room, silently debating whether or not he should open the door.

Finally, he slowly turned the doorknob, heart racing with the thought of what he might find on the other side of the door. Opening the door, his heart hit the floor, and he felt his breathing get shallow.

“Home so soon, baby? I thought they needed you for-” Darren abandoned all reason in that moment and hauled Bryan up out of the bed by his arms.

“You sick bastard.”

“Not my fault, Chris came right back to me.” Darren shoved Bryan a little, ready to pull back his arm and throttle Bryan into next Tuesday.

“You didn’t give him a choice.”

“And you did?” Darren faltered. “I know what’s going on between the two of you. You think everyone’s so blind to your little affair.”

“Nothing is going on between Chris and I. We’re friends.”

“Really? I pay attention, you know. Every time you’re here, Chris is distracted. I think he just wants your cock in his tight, little ass.” Darren never resorted to physical violence, he was better than that. But as soon as the words left Bryan’s mouth, Darren’s fist went hurtling towards Bryan’s face.
The front door to the house swung open, and Chris came rushing in to see Darren duck away from Bryan’s fist and throw a punch of his own at Bryan.
