"So, where on earth did you come from my little mysterious friend?" I paced back and forth never setting my eyes off what could be the answer to all of my questions. The storm outside danced around the town as the sun slowing set behind the grey masses of rock. Street lamps were being lit. Towns folk had either gone to their homes or toward the taverns where they'd forget a long day of work. Though, work had dropped drastically since they closed off the mines in the mountains. The disappearances of some of the people in town had caused alot of changes. The biggest being the closing of the mines. A curfew was also set to everyone who lives here. At sunset, everyone is to stay indoors. Although many still go to drunked up.
I decided to finally pick up the book. Its cover was dark and textured like stone. The pages were made of something other than paper. The room seemed to grow darker as I open the book to the first page of words. Words which I have never in my life seen. The blood colored text resembled what looked like the writing of a toddler, but somewhat more artistic and graceful. There was some structure within the writings. I could not decipher the meanings. There were some pictures drawn. Pictures of horrors. Creatures that were only born by the moon or something deeper. I couldnt help but shiver.
I was awaked by a crashing of garage cans outside in the back alley. A scattering of what sounded like feet. I must of fallen asleep while looking at the book. The noise outside continued. I jumped up quietly and stepped slowly to the window. I couldnt see anything right away, my eyes were adjusting to the darkness still. I could only make out dark figures moving about. Strange. They seem to be walking back and forth as if pacing around mindlessly. Almost zombie like. That wasn't what frightened me. The sound of something climbing the fire escape to my window did.
