Job opening: Ducky's Bitch

Jul 01, 2008 15:06

My boss just submitted the paperwork for another req for my group at Qualcomm (the first in 4 years, w00t!). I'll be looking for a Unix systems administrator with a strong programming background. Where Unix is "mostly Linux, some Solaris would be helpful", and Programming is "mostly Perl and Bourne shell, but C would be useful as would a modicum of Python or Java".

My group (Unix Infrastructure Research and Development) does mostly meta administration - writing the tools and maintaining the infrastructure needed for the front-line admins to do their stuff. I'd rather teach someone green to large-installation sysadmin than struggle to get them to unlearn things ingrained at prior gigs, so as long as the scripting is mighty, the experience in maintaining hundreds or thousands of hosts can be weak.

This is mostly a heads-up since I don't have a req # yet to work with. Also, we're shooting for a hire date of sometime in October.

work, hiring
