Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

I pushed out a change yesterday that ended up killing mail service across a thousand Linux boxes, about 5% of all the IT managed machines. Unfortunately that 5% tended to be a more important 5% than most. Fortunately no one noticed except for one guy and I released a patch which fixed them all up in about an hour.

That I can get the whole environment humming along like clockwork without hardly anyone noticing that anything went wrong in the first place is probably a big part of my "management visibility" problem. =P

On that note, management is starting to take notice (not because of the above). They asked me for a couple of names from another group whom I would like to have take on some of my more day-to-day work. I ended up getting my top choice. WOOT! =)

All I could ask for now is one more unix savvy person for project management, business unit liaison kind of stuff... and I already have someone in mind for that. And by the time I do need to ask for that, it should coincide with when they become available. All part of my nefarious plan, muahaha! ;)
