Shit, I guess it's about time I post something huh? I haven't been online much or at all in about two months because work has been really hectic and the last thing I've wanted to do after working endless hours unfucking other people's computers at work is get on my own computer at home. I'm on vacation this week though so I figgered I was about due to crawl out from underneath the rock I've been under. I just realized yesterday that a bazillion of my friends all have birthdays in July and August and I missed every single one of them. Yeah I know, I suck. Sorry everybody.
Street Fair starts tomorrow and I can't fucking wait!!!! The Wake is releasing a live DVD/CD there that they recorded at last year's fair and I'm way excited about picking it up. They've got two songs from the album up now on their myspace page and also two videos. I put the videos up on my myspace page and made Oh My Guinness my new profile song so go check them out:
MY Space I'm so fucking stoked that it's time for Street Fair again, this is far and away the Wake's best gig of the year every year and I can't wait to be out there with all my old drinking buddies drinking Guinness in the hot sun and rocking out to some killer music. I'll try and take some pictures this time around.
What else has been going on in the life of ol Guinessdrinker? Not a whole lot really. Any free time I've had during the last two months I've spent wailing away on my mandolin. It's been two months now since I started taking lessons and although I'm not coming along as fast as I'd like, I think I'm doing ok for a n00b. I also signed up for this Beginner's Bluegrass Jam school that they offer at the place where I take my lessons and it's been really helpful and the whole group has made a lot of improvement in the short time the class has been running. Tonight's the 4th class and I get to do a few solo breaks and I've been practicing so much this week that all of the fingertips on my left hand are pretty gnarly looking right now.
I was fucking around the other day and made a few recordings so I could hear how I'm doing and if anybody's interested I've put them online and you can check them out at the links below. Redhaired Boy and Old Joe Clark are two of the solo breaks I get to do tonight in the jam, and I 'might' take a crack at Cripple Creek. Salt Creek and Cripple Creek are still kind of rough because I just started learning both of those songs this past week. I get into a little trouble on Cripple Creek on the B part the first time through but it gets better the second time around.
