Watched as my better half made her way through security at the airport this morning, waved "see ya!" to the back of her head (I think? LOL) through a sea of people, then left with the best in-laws in the world. As we drove back homeward, the just-past-full moon was setting in the West, and a blood-orange sun rose opposite. It's a beautiful day for a journey.
I know my sweetie has been worried about me during this transition. I'd been unemployed pretty much since January, except for one nasty 3-month stint that sent me damn near screaming out the door. The past decade or so, getting a job has been a special kind of hell. It used to be that I could check the Sunday papers, send out a few resumes, get called and interviewed and hired within a couple of weeks... Would you believe it, I grabbed a flyer at the local grocery advertising open interviews, went in, got called back almost immediately with a job offer pending the drug screen?? That was last week. This week, mom-in-law clued me in to a job at an Escape Room, and for lulz I applied. Sent my cheekiest cover letter, too. Next morning, got called for interview that day - and got hired damn near on the spot! (One of the biggest draws for both jobs: they're within walking distance if the car croaks out, which is a HUGE plus right now!. Also, managers are gay-friendly and I know for a fact the grocery one is pet-friendly - she called the day after we lost the big guy, and she offered not only condolences but as much time as I needed before committing to the orientation.)
It feels like luck has shifted for our household, with one flying West and the other trying new things. I'm going to reinvent myself while she's away, use exercise and mental gymnastics from these two jobs to boost myself up and hopefully rekindle creativity from the ashes of depression. I'm still looking for another money-maker, preferably writing and/or editing on my own hours - and I'm strongly leaning toward a writing project that would make the stereotypical grandmother blush.
First step: watching flight tracker until my heart is in Hawai'i (and watching "Lilo and Stitch" during that leg of the journey). After that: grocery store orientation Saturday, Escape Room on Sunday, then settle into crazy-ass schedule for a while, while plotting other things. Oh, and somewhere in there, really getting back into blogging. Facebook may be all the thing, but I miss DW and LJ. So...I might get more active on both sites again. If you have any links or groups to rec, I'd like them very much! Let's wake my brain back up - it has work to do. ^___^
