No guns.
So I found out yesterday how much of a hippie I am, and how just because I'm a hippie doesn't make me a pansy or an idiot. My Apricot invited me to go to a shooting range for ladies night yesterday & I accepted. She used a .22 & I opted for the glock 9mil. In hindsight, that was probably not the best choice. well, guns only purpose aren't to kill people. Ignoring the primary hunting uses of rifles & shotguns, and focusing on pistols:
My Uncle, as an example, hunted with a pistol. In the backwoods area he hunted in, getting a rifle into position would have been very difficult w/o alerting a deer.
That being said, i know of many people who keep a gun, unloaded, simply to deter a theif. In addition, I firmly belive that most people who have a gun for home defense, would rather wound the assailant in the leg, then kill them.
However, respect for them is STILL a good idea! That woman who was ignoring all the instructor, &c, should have been kicked out, after giving her a refund.
