Stress and sunspots

Jan 30, 2007 15:55

I'm tired... training has been taking a lot out of me on several levels, and the jarring of the breakfalls last night has left me rather sore.  I slept far too long last night...

I just went up on the roof to look at the sun through solar telescopes; my research advisor is teaching ESS 102, and apparently, that's their lab today.  There's a really pretty prominence visible on the sun today, and three largeish sunspots.  One of the telescopes has a filter that puts the image just on the purple edge of the visible spectrum, so apparently, if your eyes aren't so good, it's hard to see anything through it.  I could see the sun itself, but I couldn't see the features well.  The largest of the three telescopes allowed for a very nice close-up on the features.

Fingerless gloves and an overcoat have been quite useful in combating the chill in the lab.  But I still crave coffee... hmm...
