Okay, guys, you know how last Friday, my temp job ended?... Well. Things have taken an unexpected turn. Please allow me to apprise you of the timeline of events.
Wednesday morning: I got an e-mail from a recruiter, completely unsolicited, inquiring if I was in the market for work, as there were a couple positions she was aware of that may suit me. I replied, thinking I had nothing to lose, asking a few questions and enclosing my resume. I got a reply back a couple hours later, alerting me that it was a known organization in an area I could readily get to, giving me more information about the work (long-term temp employment for Mellon Bank, or more accurately, with the Bank of New York they recently absorbed) and asking if I would be interested in being set up for an interview. I course replied yes.
Wednesday afternoon: I got a phone call from the recruiter, verifying my information and setting me up for an interview- for the next morning.
Thursday morning: I had my interview with the bank. It went well, as a whole; I had a couple small bumps getting there (my bus was late, and then I got hung up checking in at the visitor sign-in desk), but the interview itself went well. They pretty much told me up-front that they liked me. However, they also told me that they did have another interview to conduct, and I would likely hear something the next day or Monday. When I got home I called the recruiter (as per her request), and she told me she had gotten positive feedback from the interviewer as well.
So, I wait. And then, less than half an hour ago.... I got a phone call from the recruiter, officially offering me the job. I of course accepted. I'm not sure when I'll be starting yet- Monday was mentioned, but they said that may be too soon- so we'll see on that department.
Here's the run-down. It's a data entry position, helping them transition from Bank of New York to Mellon Bank. I'll be entering material in databases, really. That's straightforward. The position pays about twelve an hour- slightly over, I think- so I'll be making comparable to what I was earning in my last position. It's supposed to last about a year, and while it's not temp to hire, I will be at the top of the candidate list for any other available positions in the bank for which I would be qualified, at the time the original position ends. So who knows where I'll be, a year from now?
I'm just... kind of reeling, at this point. I mean, I was basically unemployed for all of one week. That's it. A week. In that week, I got an interview and was hired- and it was the first interview I had, too. I wonder if this is some sort of karmic pay-back for all the struggle I had the first time around?... Either way, I'm not questioning my fate. I'm just very very happy right now, and I just had to tell everyone. It's such a relief to know I'm not going to have to worry or struggle, that I can slide from one position to the next, and that I have money for things I want and need to do. I can go to the Renaissance Festival without worry about the cost (heck, I can buy myself something nice there, if I want, like a sword or a new bodice, even!), I can maybe enhance my Lolita wardrobe a bit (even if I just get a couple basic pieces from an inexpensive eBay vendor called Momo's), I can save for travel (Vegas! Woo! And other places too!), and well... just overall feel better. It's good right now, it really is.
Now, as a side note- those of you who know me here in real life, take a look at my entry previous to this. When I get my first paycheck from this job, to celebrate, I want to make one of those cakes. I'll likely bring it to gaming night to feed everyone. :) So I want to know which ones everyone thinks sound the tastiest, so I know what will overall get the best reception. Let's celebrate! :)
