The Advent of Alcoholic Cakes

Sep 08, 2009 14:19

Yes, this is very random. The thing is, yesterday before leaving for the Labor Day picnic I attended (thanks again to Adam and Stacie for hosting us all!), I found myself poking through recipes. Specifically, in idling a brief span of time prior to departure, I clicked on a link I had forgotten I bookmarked for a recipe for a Fuzzy Navel cake, which I found a long time ago. This led to following a succession of related-recipe links, and found... there's a whole lotta cakes with liquor in them. And a whole lotta those sound pretty darn good. There's cakes with rum, Irish cream, amaretto, and other such ingredients. The only one that didn't sound especially appealing was a daiqueri cake that included lime. I could see that working in a cream pie- in fact, that would probably be quite tasty- but cake? Not so much.
I alluded to this yesterday to one or two people, and due to a positive response, I decided to share the recipes I've found. So here they are!

This is the aforementioned Fuzzy Navel cake, that started it all. As you no doubt guessed from the name, it's meant to model the original Fuzzy Navel drink in flavor, blending peach schnapps and orange. A favorite of mine, so I'm pre-disposed to like this idea.

Here's two chocolate rum cakes; I actually saw a few of those. Here's two off this same site; the first is a "Blockade Runner" chocolate-rum cake, the name of which intrigued me.

And here's a more basic recipe of the same theme.

And now, an Irish Cream bundt cake. To me, any dessert that can include Bailey's is something I'm in favor of.

Oh, here's a variation I just found, with a chocolate base! That sounds good, too.

Here's an oddity of the list- a cake including, of all things, Southern Comfort. I'm not entirely certain how well this would work, but I'm including it for curiosity factor.

And, last but not least- Amaretto Custard cake. Just the name makes me think, "Mmmm...."

Oh, I really need to stop prowling the side links on this site. I just found another recipe that sounds just decadent- a chocolate cake using Godiva's. Oh my.... This one is more complicated on the ingredient list than the others, though.

Needless to say, I want to try my hand at making some of these! I have to admit the Southern Comfort one is low on the priority list, but the others all sound very tasty indeed. In fact, if my finances are stable by then (which, with luck, they will be), I plan to make at least one, maybe even two, (if I'm stable enough) for this year's New Year's Eve party. I'm thinking the Fuzzy Navel or Irish Cream ones, first, though the Amaretto Custard is a contender. (Even though to make the Irish Cream one- or most of them, so it seems- I'll have to buy a bundt pan....) However, if anyone else feels inclined to try making any of these before that time, go to town! Just be sure to tell me how it tastes (or, if you live in my area, maybe even save me a slice?...). Happy baking!
