Like Julia, I would have to say that this year was a bit of a disappointment. I suppose I had high expectations for my first dance since sophomore year, but still. The newness of everything this year is still getting me down.
Continuing the tradition from last year, Lindi, Melody, and I didn't attend a single practice and cheered our team on from the sidelines. Actually, we froze to death while we watched the juniors get pounded. But at least we have cool shirts!
Friday was a crazy day. After skipping Harmony practice #1 to work on my physics lab, I realized I still hadn't made a poster and cookies like Anita wanted me to. I got the poster done at lunch and then "came back to Hoover early for the pep assembly" aka baked cookies and brownies at home with Jade. That was an enjoyable hour. We had a good heart-to-heart about life. I realized that with my schedule I don't really get much of that lately, so it was a welcome relief from the hoopla of the week.
After school, I was purchasing my dance tickets when who do I see walking down the hall?? CHELSEA!!! How exciting was that?? I feel as if all along the seniors have been there, embracing all us underclassmen and protecting us from the rest of the world. Now that they're gone, it's up to my class to step up and fill their shoes. Only it doesn't feel right. Yet.
The game was great. I talked to Chelsea and Abby for a long time and got caught up on the joys of college life. Oh holy cow, do I miss them like crazy. Abby and I made plans to get together for a Lunch Bunch reunion today. Exciting!
8100 yard practice Saturday morning. I surprised myself with the energy overload I possessed. Heck, I was keeping up with Kelly Meade! Joe said I'm surprising a lot of people with my success lately because my hard work is paying off. Yeah.
Lindi and Melody came over after chuch to get ready. Late, of course. Lindi's outfit didn't work out, so we had to wait for Melody to come and save the day with her shirt collection. Melody's hair had some difficulties to say the least. Then I curled Lindi's hair in spirals which took FOR-evah...my mom was freaking out and trying to get us to hurry up.
We ended up being 45 minutes late to a DELICIOUS meal prepared by Ron. Shish-kabobs, potatoes, bread, Brie and crackers, sandles, and smoothies. YUM, YUM!! And chocolate cheeecake for dessert! Ten times better than a restaurant, that's for sure! Plus, we ate out on the deck which Joe had decorated beautifully with twinkle lights and candles.
Then to the dance. We got there around 9 and there was a looooong line. Got some good people watching in, though. Lindi forgot her ID so we had to go back home and get it. We didn't have to wait in line, though, so that was a plus.
The dance pretty much sucked save the 7 minutes of slow dancing with Joe. Neither of us are great dancers, though, so The Group just stood there and talked while Lindi danced and rapped. Got the obligatory picture, critiqued and gossiped about people's outfits and dancing, hung out with my swimmers a bit. I was really disappointed, though, because my sophomores left right when we got there, so we didn't get to dance in a big group like I had pictured. Oh, well. Save the fun for later, I guess.
Afterwards we went bowling where I got my all-time lowest score...drumroll, please...54 measely points. I'm blaming it on the skirt. Joe, on the other hand, got 3 strikes and a couple spares and 134 points. It was funny to watch everyone bowl...we all had our own little qwirks like Melody would walk up and literally drop the ball, where Dan would throw it so hard he fell almost every time. Add that to the fact that none of us were coherant due to sleep deprivation and you can imagine the conversations.
By this time it was 12:30 and I was supposed to be home by 1. We went back to Joe's and I called home to beg for an extension. My dad answered, just back from his trip to Mineapolis. I think I woke him up, but he was nice about it and let me stay out an extra hour. Everyone else went to Dan's and Joe and I hung out in his room for the last bit. I think that was my favorite part because I don't get enough one-on-one time with him--it's always with the group along. We rushed home to make 2:00...and then my mom told me this morning she didn't remember me waking her up so I could have been out later and they wouldn't have known! AH, well, foresight is 20/20, what can you do?
Now I need to go shopping and Lunch Bunch. Yeah, fun stuff ahead!
