Gahh!!!!

The last two days have been trying to say the least. Exercises in futility and frustration to the max. Yesterday I attempted the first step in decorating my newly painted cabint. The one I decided would transform nicely from sleek, black Danish Modern, to Shabby Chic/ English Country by removing the brushed stainless steel hardware, and painting the cabinet sagey green. Next step on my agenda was to paint some latticey white lines at the bottom corners of both doors, and then decoupage some rose motifs over that. Easy, no? NOT!!!

I should have penciled in ruled lines, and then painted on top of those, but brainiac me decided to freehand the lattices. BIG MISTAKE! Looked like shit. SOOOOO....I had to paint over the lines to "erase" my blunder. This brings me to my second idiocy of the day. I was out of the shade of green I mixed to paint the cabinet a month ago. So now I had to muck around with trying to come up with the same shade. Haha! Not that easy Nimrod!

Several mixings later, I still had'nt nailed the right hue, had spilled paint in my shoe.......while wearing it, and had managed to totally blotchified my formerly freshly painted and looking good cabinet. So, I turned my attentions to removing the industrial strength pulls, and replacing them with kinder, gentler white wooden knobs which I had painted. EGAD! The former hardware had been screwed into RECESSED spaces, and had TWO screw holes instead of the single hole I needed for the knobs. AND, the long pulls I got for the doors, were too short! AARRGGHH!!! I was in interior redecorating hell. So, I put my paints and screwdrivers aside and did what I always do in this kind of dilemma: I took a nap. But not until Dad called and I told him ther whole sad story.

Dad called me this morning, and after some chit chat he asked me, " So, did you get the paint remixed right?". And THIS is the man my sister and brothet-in-law have been trying to convince everybody is soooooo demented that he's got Alzheimers. Now, I ask you. "Nuff said.

So, today I got back with my paints and fiddled around a good bit. It's still not a perfect match, but I'm getting there. Trouble being that the paint dries darker than it goes on, so it's not until it's all dry that I know there's a problem. Yeesh! And as if that weren't enough? The rose motifs that I was going to cut out of fabric that matches my loveseat cushions? I only have one motif, not two. Oy vey!!!

So, yeah, things are not going too smoothly in Guavmom's continuing redecorating oddysey. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose.

BUT.....my new, improved wheelchair was delivered today, Marianne and Sandy came for a brief visit, I just woke up from a nap, and it's suppertime. So, yay! And then, m'dears, a movie. Hooray!!

friends, home
