*sigh* Growing up, I got the impression that the conservative philosophy could be summed up as follows:

1) The world is been a miserable place, it always was, and always shall be.
2) So shut up and stop whining.
3) If you work hard, you shall succeed.

To be quite frank:

You have a philosophy where pain (causing it to others and suffering it yourself) is the best way to achieve something and where self-congratulatory smugness is the best frame of mind in which to make decisions, and you wonder how that could possibly have gone wrong with it?

As Rand was so fond of saying, check your premises. Or in this case, check your values. You've gotten exactly what you asked for, you're just complaining because it isn't what you had in mind.

Ummmm...I believe political conservatism (by its current definition--the meanings of 'liberal' and 'conservative' have swapped definitions a few times during the US's history...it's kinda weird that way. ^_^;;;) just means that you want minimal government control. Liberalism means you want more government control. It...doesn't actually have to do with your religious beliefs ( ... )
