Jongdae realizes he hasn’t shared his new class schedule with Baekhyun once he gets a text from his boyfriend halfway into his first class of the day, English. The teacher isn’t talking about anything particularly interesting, the syllabus, so Jongdae doesn’t have to worry about paying attention as he sends Baekhyun a screenshot he has saved on his phone of his schedule.
Baekhyun [10:32AM]
You’re taking choir?
Out of the five classes that he’s taking that’s the one that Baekhyun asks about? Jongdae stares dumbly at his phone. After wandering off into space Jongdae figures that it’s a good question because he’s never expressed his interest in singing to Baekhyun.
Jongdae [10:44AM]
Yeah
Baekhyun [10:46AM]
I didn’t know you sang… You should sing for me
Jongdae rolls his eyes at his boyfriend's request.
Jongdae [10:51AM]
Only if you sing for me
Baekhyun [10:54AM]
Deal
Jongdae doesn’t think too much of it, he just plays it off as Baekhyun joking. In any case, he can’t respond to his boyfriend because now the professor is looking directly at Jongdae, and Jongdae takes that as the queue to put his phone away and listen to the boring lecture on the importance of the syllabus.
-
Though their schedules conflict at the end of the day everyone is able to sit together at dinner. They manage to snag a table near the back of the cafeteria. Jongdae managed to keep the conversation away from his and Baekhyun’s relationship for a few minutes by talking about their breaks.
Everyone shares their most exciting events from break before Sehun finally says, “Okay, now let us get to the real exciting news; Jongdae has a boyfriend.”
“I don’t think you guys would find it that exciting.” Jongdae shrugs, trying to get everyone as off the topic as possible but they’re not letting it go.
“Of course we find it exciting. You have someone to…” Sehun cuts himself off, thinking of a proper way to put this. “Love you. I remember your first date with him. I remember prom. I can’t believe you finally got over yourself and let you guys actually get together. How’d it happen?”
Sehun is talking so fast that when he stops it takes a moment for both Jongdae and Baekhyun to process what the youngest is saying.
“Oh, uh, actually, I kinda asked him to be my boyfriend? I guess?” Jongdae looks over at Baekhyun who shrugs in return. “He came over my house-”
“He came over your house?” Kyungsoo interrupts. “When Minseok was there? Let’s not forget that Minseok looked seconds away from killing him when you straddled Baekhyun at the party.”
“True.” Han nods as he wraps an arm around his mate’s shoulders. “Minseok even texted me asking what he should do.”
“Good to know that he wants to know what to do about my relationship. He should really focus on his own.” Jongdae looks down to stab his food and that’s when Baekhyun takes the chance to shake his head as if to say steer clear of that topic.
“Yeah, I went over his house because he had my jacket with all my stuff in it. I kind of needed to pay for dinner. I introduced myself as Jongdae’s friend, since I didn’t know what his parents knew about me, and he introduced me as his boyfriend, which I was completely okay with.” Baekhyun nudges Jongdae from where he’s violently stabbing his spicy rice cakes. “They invited me and my parents in for dinner.”
“This was all on Christmas?” Sehun asks.
“Yeah.”
“And you met his parents, and he met yours?”
“Yeah.”
“And Jongdae didn’t tell me any of this?” Sehun looks taken aback by this new development. “Did he tell you any of this, Kyungsoo?”
Kyungsoo shakes his head. “I was actually a little busy during break, my phone was the last thing on my mind. I don’t mind that Jongdae didn’t tell us, and you shouldn’t either, Sehun.”
Sehun sticks out his tongue at the way Kyungsoo says his name.
“If it makes you feel better, I’ll tell you that I spent New Year's at Baekhyun’s house and we made out at midnight.” Jongdae finally looks up to see a huge grin on Sehun’s face. “Happy?”
“Yes. If you need any relationship advice you should come to me.”
Everyone at the table simultaneously stares at Sehun as if he’s crazy. “I don’t think that’s the best idea, Sehun.” Yixing speaks up from where he’s been quietly listening the whole time. “When Jongdae and Baekhyun get in a fight, and I’m saying when because it will happen if you’re together long enough,” Yixing looks at Jongdae and Baekhyun as he says the last part. “You’re the last person that Jongdae needs to talk to. Last time you were mad at Zitao you kicked him out your dorm for a week and he had to stay with us. You didn’t even talk to him.”
Han snickers in the background, and Yixing turns his gaze towards the eldest at the table. “I don’t think I need to remind you of last year, do I? At least now the two of you have progressed to the point of just not talking for a few days.” Yixing comment, along with the sweet smile the male gives, shuts Han down immediately.
“So I guess I should come to you or Yifan for relationship advice?” Jongdae laughs.
“My advice will always be to talk it out.”
“And Yifan?” Baekhyun looks at the Beta who hasn’t said anything the entire conversation. When he hears his name he looks up to find Baekhyun’s expectant eyes on him. Though he may have seem focused on his food he was paying attention to the conversation.
“Whenever Yixing and I get in an argument, and I’m really upset, I usually go walk around campus for about an hour. When I get back we talk it out.” Yifan is completely honest with his answer. “I think the biggest fight we ever had resulted in me leaving for the night… I think I slept in my car.” he laughs to himself. “We made up in the morning though, but I didn’t like spending time away from him.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, how long have you and Yixing been together?” Baekhyun leans his elbows on the table and rests his head in his hands.
“We met back in China when we were children; Yixing and I went to the same elementary school. I was raised by a single mother, and because it was difficult and expensive for us to live in China, we moved to Canada when I was entering middle school. In high school though, I made it to Korea as an exchange student. Yixing had moved to Korea the year before. I was shocked to find out that we were going to the same high school. I didn’t think he’d recognize me at first, so I never said anything to him.”
“Yifan is shy.” Yixing looks at his mate. “Yes, he looks scary, but he’s the biggest teddy bear out there. I knew who he was, but I didn’t think he wanted to talk to me, so I didn’t approach him at first. I saw that he wasn’t making any friends, so eventually I figured I should go talk to him. Yifan was struggling with learning Korean, that’s why he wasn’t making friends. We kicked it off, started dating when we were both sophomores in high school. We mated when we were freshmen in college, though we were sure maybe a year after we were dating that we wanted to become mates. Our parents told us to wait.”
“Do you regret becoming mates?”
“I’ve never regretted becoming mates.” Yixing’s face falls, seriousness overcoming it. “Yifan makes me happy, and I do my best to make him happy.”
The tables falls silent before Sehun speaks up, “Hey, I only kicked Zitao out one time.”
“He cried.”
“Ah.” Sehun falls silent.
“Don’t beat yourself over it Sehun, I completely understand why you kicked me out.” Zitao tries to cheer up his mate, whose mood has visibly deflated. “I was upset, but it was okay when you let me back in.”
Baekhyun smiles before leaning towards Jongdae, “Please, if we ever live together, don’t kick me out of the dorm. Just make me sleep on the floor or something so I can be close to you.”
“You two are adorable.” Chanyeol looks much too excited as he says this. “I wonder if Jongin and I were ever like this when we first got together.”
“No, and you know we weren’t Chanyeol.” Jongin grins. “We were worse.”
-
Jongdae knows his heat is due to strike up in February, but he isn't expecting it to his when he’s with Baekhyun. In fact, he doesn’t realizing his heat has come. It’s only Baekhyun tensing up in the seat next to him that has him thinking something is wrong.
He doesn’t bother asking his boyfriend though, because they’re each studying for their respective tests that are coming up. Even in college the teacher somehow know to give tests on the same day. Jongdae is fortunate that he only has two tests, while Baekhyun has three.
Jongdae finds it harder to focus on his notes and he blames it on his squirming boyfriend, who looks as though he’s ready to up and bolt, his movements are so fidgety. “Baekhyun, stop moving,” Jongdae snaps, temper unreasonably short, “I’m trying to study and you’re distracting me.”
“I don’t think that’s what’s distracting you.” Baekhyun sounds as though he’s pain, causing Jongdae to look at his boyfriend, away from his textbooks.
“Are you okay?”
“Are you okay?” Baekhyun counters, because Jongdae’s scent has gotten extremely intense, intense enough to have Baekhyun swelling a bit in his pants. Baekhyun doesn’t want to seem rude by bringing his hands up to plug his nose, so he hopes his question prompts his boyfriend to focus on his own body.
“I was okay, until you distracted me from my studying.” Jongdae frowns. “Why?”
“Jongdae, are you, you know, in heat?”
“No, I’d be able to tell.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure.” Jongdae goes back to his textbook. Baekhyun can’t focus now, all his attention going into breathing through his nose. He needs to study, and the only way he would be able to do that now is away from Jongdae. But he doesn’t want to leave his boyfriend, who is is sure is in heat, by himself. “You smell really fucking good.” Jongdae slams his book down a few minutes later. “Like, better than usual. It’s distracting.”
“Yes, your nose is more more sensitive and receptive to the smells around you.” Baekhyun frowns. “That’s what it’s like when you’re in heat. Didn’t you take Health 101?”
Jongdae stares at Baekhyun a moment before he stills his entire body. He focuses on himself, and how his body is reacting to his surroundings. Baekhyun smells wonder, it’s so intense that it’s the only thing Jongdae seems to be able to smell. He feels hotter, which is unusual because the library likes to be stingy on the heating. A faint sheen of sweat is on his face, which now that he thinks about it, is unusual. Jongdae stands up. When he feels slick slide out his ass and into his underpants he groans because Baekhyun was right. He is in heat.
“Fuck.” Jongdae mutters under his breath, “I’m going to miss the test.” he starts to gather his books up. Baekhyun stands up to do the same.
“You just went into heat, and you’re worried about a test?” Baekhyun forces the laughter out as he helps Jongdae get his books in his bag, because in his rush Jongdae has dropped a good portion of them on the ground.
“My heat can last four to five days, Baekhyun. That means that I will be in a stupor in four to five days. The day after that will be recovery basically, and I don’t have the time to study. I’ll forget everything these next few days.” Jongdae groans as he pulls his bags up.
“You can’t shorten it?” Baekhyun pushes the door to the library open after giving a wave to the librarian at the desk.
“Not by myself, no. Unless you wanted to help me.” Jongdae doesn’t even think about it, the heat finally getting to his heat.
“Not this time.”
“Why not?” Jongdae pauses, only going forward once Baekhyun prompts him to keep walking with a hand on his lower back. The hand sends a shiver though Jongdae’s body. “You’re my boyfriend.”
“Like I said earlier, you took Health 101, right?” Baekhyun starts listing off the facts in his head, “In order for me, your boyfriend, your Alpha boyfriend, to help reduce the time of your heat, I would have to knot you, without a condom. You’ve never mentioned going to the doctor, so I don’t think you’re on birth control. That means, as an Alpha, with a very functional knot, and you in heat, chances of conception are very high.”
Jongdae stops again and crosses his arms. “You don’t know what it’s like to be in heat.”
“I don’t, but I also don’t want to know what it’s like to be a father this soon.” Baekhyun urges Jongdae forward once more, but his boyfriend is having none of it.
“Why? Do you not think I’m attractive? Do I smell bad? Does the sweat make me look bad?” Jongdae is suddenly self conscious, and Baekhyun can see it in the way he crosses his arms and holds his head down.
“Babe, I find you very attractive, but I’m not risking getting you pregnant. I’m also not risking us mating during your heat, since most accidental mating comes from coitus during heat or rut.”
“You sound like a fucking textbook.” Jongdae starts forward again, suddenly, catching Baekhyun off guard.
“I’m just telling you the truth. I’m not doing something because heat, and rut, clouds people’s minds. I don’t want to do something either of us would regret.”
“So you’re saying you’d regret mating with me?”
“That’s not what I’m saying at all, Jongdae.”
“But Baekhyun,” Jongdae whines, stopping to look at his boyfriend and there are tears in his eyes. Baekhyun isn’t having any of this.
“No buts, Jongdae. End of discussion. I’m getting you somewhere safe, and you’ll handle it from there.”
“Some fucking boyfriend you are.” Jongdae mutters as Baekhyun leads him forward. When they get to the building that Baekhyun has in mind Jongdae looks over in confusion. “This isn’t your or my building.”
“No, but that’s because I’m not leaving you by yourself. I am not going to have you coming out, smelling as good as you do, looking for me.” Baekhyun leads Jongdae to the front desk, where the two people are sat.
“Hello.” the Alpha female answers. “How can we help you? I don’t think I’ve seen you here before. Did you just move in.”
“No, this is my boyfriend. He’s in heat, and I don’t trust him to be by himself in his dorm. I was wondering if it would be okay for me to bring him up to his brother’s room for the time being?” Baekhyun is almost pleading.
The Alpha looks at the Beta woman and they share a look of confusion, because in their entire time working at this university they don’t think they’ve seen someone come in with their significant other in heat, saying that they didn’t want to take care of the heat.
“Who is his brother?”
“Kim Minseok. He and Kim Junmyeon live in the same dorm.”
“Oh, I didn’t know Minseok’s younger brother went here.”
“I don’t want to stay with them.”
“Well, you’re going to, and while you’re up there you and Minseok are going to sort out this argument that’s been going on for over a month.” Baekhyun watches as the receptionist types in Minseok’s name.
“Sixth floor. Room 657. Get on the elevator and make a right.”
“Thank you. I’ll be right back down after I drop him off.” Baekhyun leads Jongdae to the elevators.
“I don’t like being treating like this.” Jongdae is leaning heavily on Baekhyun, who is now holding Jongdae up. He smells heavily of heat and the slick that is coming out of him. Baekhyun would be lying if he said he didn’t want to throw Jongdae down right there and help his boyfriend out, but Baekhyun has his wits about him and he isn't going to fuck up their relationship.
The elevator ride is longer than it should be, Jongdae’s scent only getting stronger. When they get to the door with the numbers 657 on it Baekhyun knocks loudly.
“Yes?” Minseok pulls open the door a crack to see who it is, because the doors don’t have peepholes. “Baekhyun? Jongdae?”
“Hey.” Baekhyun greets Minseok. “Look, I know you may not like me, and I know that you and Jongdae may still not be talking to each other, but if you could do me a favor that would be great.” Baekhyun is speaking quickly, nodding at Junmyeon who comes up behind Minseok. “I was hoping that you two could watch Jongdae, his heat has started. I don’t want to leave him by himself, because I’m worried that he won’t take care of himself and get the necessary amount of water and food. I don’t think he has any friends in his building, and I don’t exactly trust myself to be alone with Jongdae much longer.”
“Yeah, sure.” Minseok reaches for Jongdae’s hand, but his brother snatches it away to latch onto Baekhyun. “Jongdae, you should come in.”
“Noooooo.”
“Jongdae, the longer the stand out there, the more your scent is going to seep into the hallway. You also need to come in and take a shower because your slick is starting to seep through your pants.” Junmyeon pushes around Minseok to attempt to coax Jongdae away from Baekhyun. “Come on, you can see Baekhyun after your heat is over. Right now you’re making him a little uncomfortable, so just come with me, okay?” Junmyeon speaks softly as he pulls Jongdae's hands away from Baekhyun and slowly leads him inside.
Minseok stands in the hallway, looking Baekhyun up and down. “So you’re telling me, that Jongdae, your boyfriend, your Omega boyfriend went into heat, and the first thing you thought about was bringing him here to us? You, who are his Alpha boyfriend.”
“Yes.” Baekhyun says truthfully. “Like I said, he needs someone to make sure he actually survives his heat and makes sure that he doesn’t do anything stupid.”
“You’re calling my brother stupid?” Minseok raises an eyebrow.
“Now, I’m saying that your brother is in heat, and history shows that Omegas in heat can make choices that deviate from their normal thinking. I trust you and Junmyeon to take care of him.”
“And you’re telling me that you didn’t want to help him during his heat?”
“I just did help him by bringing him here.”
“You’re saying you had no thoughts have having sex with him?”
“Oh, I did,” Baekhyun doesn’t hesitate. He powers through the stare that Minseok gives him, “It’s only instinct, really. Your boyfriend is in heat, so you want to help him out right, and shorten it. But, I’m not stupid, and I know that it’s too risky to have sex with him at this point. Maybe later, but not now. He asked, he made it seem like he wanted me to help him out, but I couldn’t do that.”
“You’re telling me that my brother asked you to fuck him, and you said no?”
“Yes.”
Minseok and Baekhyun stare at each other for some time as they stand right outside of Minseok’s door. “Thank you.”
Baekhyun is so taken aback by those simple two words that he goes, “What?”
“I said thank you. For not taking advantage of Jongdae, even if he asked you to. Maybe you’re not such a bad guy after all.”
“Maybe you’re just overprotective of your little brother.” Baekhyun shrugs. “But you’re welcome. I have to go back to my own place now, it’s late and I need to finish studying. Tell Jongdae I’ll talk to him later, alright?” Baekhyun starts to walk away after a small wave of goodbye.
Minseok watches him get on the elevator before he turns and walks back into his room. He hears the shower running and Jongdae is nowhere in sight.
“He’s taking a shower now. I gave him some of my clothes, just so you don’t have to deal with your underwear or pants smelling like slick.” Junmyeon stands up and pulls his mate into a hug. “Is it okay if he spends the night?”
“Of course it is, Junmyeon. He’s my brother, who is in heat. I’m not just going to send him home without making sure he’s perfectly alright to take care of himself.”
“Good.” Junmyeon pulls away after giving Minseok a brief peck on his lips.
Jongdae comes out the bathroom twenty minutes later, hair damp and cheeks flushed. He is wearing Junmyeon’s clothing, some of the looser items because Junmyeon is tiny so he needs to make sure that Jongdae can actually fit the clothes.
Jongdae looks around the room, not sure of where to go.
“You can get on the bed, if you want, Jongdae.” Minseok looks at his brother who makes brief eye contact before making his way over to the bed to sit down. The silence is awkward, before Jongdae speaks up.
“I never got a chance to properly apologize for Christmas.” Jongdae starts, “I’m really really sorry about it. I never should have even brought the topic up, and because of it Junmyeon’s parents were mad at both of you, then you were slightly mad at Junmyeon,” Jongdae directs that last part towards Minseok, “And you were both mad at me. I felt like shit, and I was even holding a small grudge. I should’ve gotten over it and apologized sooner, I’m sorry.”
“Apology accepted.”
“Just like that?” Jongdae narrows his eyes in suspicion, because nothing is that easy.
“Just like that. You were the one not talking to us, we just figured we’d give you space. We got over it a while ago.” Minseok tells Jongdae.
“Oh.”
“Yeah.” Minseok smiles. “It nice to actually talk to you again.”
-
Jongdae doesn’t want to leave his room. Now that his heat is over, and every trace of it is washed away, Jongdae is stuck with the memories of when his heat first hit. And how he had basically asked Baekhyun to fuck the heat out of him and was rejected. Then he practically cried in Junmyeon’s arms because he thought that Baekhyun didn’t want him.
He’s honestly glad that Baekhyun had the sense to bring him to his brother, because Baekhyun was right about Jongdae. He hadn’t been able to take care of himself, too grief stricken by Baekhyun’s rejection to want to be able to do anything.
Of course he had managed to convince his brother to let him go back to his dorm, where he jacked off the first day of his heat. This time though, he had tried something new, and had dragged his fingers down to his leaking entrance. It only took one brush against his prostate with the correct twist of his hand and he had came all over his blanket.
Baekhyun had texted him every day to make sure he was alright, but Jongdae hadn’t had the chance to respond. When the heat wasn’t clawing at him he was either showering, eating, drinking, or sleeping. He had opened them though, and because he and Baekhyun both had iPhones he knew Baekhyun knew he had read the messages.
Instead of messaging his boyfriend to let him know that his heat was over, Jongdae goes through his contacts and dials a number.
“Jongdae, it’s good to hear from you.” his mother sounds very enthusiastic. “Something tells me this isn’t just a friendly call to your mother. What can I do for you?”
‘Hey, mom. I was wondering if you could make an appointment with my doctor.”
“Of course. Is something wrong?” his mother sounds a bit worried, which Jongdae quickly shuts down.
“Everything is alright mom. I just wanted to talk to the doctor about maybe..” he needs to get this over with as fast as possible. “About maybe starting birth control.”
“Oh.” there’s a pregnant pause before Seoyun finally says, “Alright. I’ll let the doctor know. If there a certain kind you were maybe looking for, so I could let the doctor know ahead of time?”
“I was thinking shots. Less to remember…”
“Alright. No problem. I’ll call, then I’ll call you back and let you know when your appointment is.” Seoyun informs him as she hangs up the phone.
Jongdae’s gone from his phone for maybe ten minutes before the familiar and standard ringtone fills his room. “Hello?”
“The doctor said he’d be able to take you next week on Wednesday. Is that okay with you?”
“Oh. Yeah.” Jongdae hadn’t expected it to be this soon. “That’s fine.”
“Would you like me to pick you up?” Seoyun offers.
“Oh, no mom. That’s a long drive. I’ll just borrow Minseok’s car.”
“I wouldn’t mind. I’d get to spend time with you.”
“Mom, we have spring break to spend time together.”
“How do you know?” Seoyun counters. “You may decide that you want to spend that time at Baekhyun’s.”
As she talks Jongdae realizes that she misses him, and that she wants to spend quality time with him. “Alright mom, you can pick me up. You have to wake up really early for it though.”
“That’s fine, I’ll be able to spend more time with you so it’s worth it.”
-
Jongdae hasn’t been avoiding Baekhyun, per say, he just happens to have a busy schedule that doesn’t involve Baekhyun. His boyfriend has sent him a few texts, asking Jongdae if he wanted to hang out, which Jongdae has had to repeatedly turn down.
Now that his heat is over, he has to make up for the past week. Which means instead of two tests he has three. He does repeatedly apologize to Baekhyun for the lack of contact, but Baekhyun does text him back and says he understands.
Baekhyun has been missing Jongdae more than he’s let on, because when Jongdae walks out of his second make up test he jumps when a hand touches his elbow. Jongdae turns around, though by now he can actually smell his boyfriend, to see who it is. “Baekhyun.”
“Jongdae. Hey.”
“Hey.”
“I wanted to see you.”
“Oh. Good, I wanted to see you too. I’ve been busy.”
“I thought you were just saying that as an excuse not to see me.” Baekhyun motions forward to signal Jongdae that it’s okay to walk and talk.
“Oh?” Jongdae is genuinely shocked. “Why would I be mad at you?”
“Well, when I didn’t help you out, you seemed pretty upset.”
“No.” Jongdae laughs loudly. “You were completely correct with your actions, and you were smart to drop me off at Minseok’s. I am as opposite of mad at you as I could be. I really appreciate what you did.”
“Are you sure? It seems as though you’ve been ignoring me lately.”
“I’m not, Baekhyun. I’ve just been swamped with getting these tests done, because the Professors won’t let me make it up after this. That with the addition that since one of the classes that I missed is a lecture class, I can’t really get all the content that I would have if I was in the class.” Jongdae sighs. “I have to go to the teacher and have her re-explain everything she already told the class. She’ll probably be a little aggravated.”
“Ah.” Baekhyun nods his head. “Now I feel kind of bad for distracting you.”
“It’s fine, really.” Jongdae stops walking and turns to kiss Baekhyun on the cheek. “You’re just the thing and the person that I needed right now. I’m kind of stressed, and I’m really sorry I haven’t been responding to the texts as much as I could have.”
“Babe, it’s cool. I’ll let you go see your Professor. Text me when you have free time. Alright?” Baekhyun’s hand comes around his waist in a one arm hug and he presses his lips to Jongdae’s temple. “See you soon.”
-
“Hello, Jongdae.”
“Hi, Doctor Choi.” Jongdae sits on a chair in the small examination room, his eyes following the doctor’s movements.
“Nice seeing you again. I don’t think I’ve seen you since you presented.” Dr. Choi sits down in the chair that’s at a desk. He moves the mouse to wake the computer screen up, before he types in his password. Dr. Choi is quiet for a moment as he brings up Jongdae’s file. “Yes, I haven’t seen you since you presented, about a year and a half ago. How have you been doing?”
“Uh. Fine?” Jongdae doesn’t know if it’s related to health or if it’s related to how he as a person has been doing.
“How are your heats going? Are they regular? Irregular? Really long? Short?” Dr. Choi turns expectantly at Jongdae.
“Uh…”
“Okay, when was your last heat?” Dr. Choi simples out the question.
“February.” Jongdae answers, relieved that he can finally give a coherent answer.
“Alright. How long did it last?”
Jongdae eyes roll up and to the left as he tries to remember. “Four or five days. I can’t remember.”
“Alright, good to know.” Dr. Choi starts typing at the computer. “Did you have any help from someone during it?”
“No.”
“Mhm. Now, I have to ask some more questions, a little personal, but everyone gets asked these questions when they come in. Do you have a boyfriend? Or, girlfriend, though that isn't’ as common with Omega males.”
“I have a boyfriend.”
“Oh that’s nice. What’s his name?”
“Baekhyun.”
“Now, is Baekhyun an Alpha, Beta, or Omega?”
“Alpha.”
“Are you two sexually active? Or have you been sexually active in the time since our last visit?” Dr. Choi pauses in his typing once more to look over at Jongdae.
“We’re not, and I haven’t been sexually active at all, really.”
“He didn’t help you out during your heat?” Dr. Choi raises an eyebrow. “Usually, with people your age who are in relationships, I have people coming in, not asking for birth control, but asking for a pregnancy test. You’re very responsible.”
“I think he’s more responsible than I am.” Jongdae laughs awkwardly.
“You’re here to get birth control, so don’t doubt your level of responsibility.” Dr. Choi smiles. “Now, these next questions are completely confidential between you and I, alright? I need you to answer me as truthfully as possible. Do you smoke, drink, or take any narcotics.”
“No, yes, no.”
“I will encourage you to not drink underage, but you’re young and in college, so you probably won’t listen to me. I didn’t listen to my doctor when I was your age.” Dr. Choi grins. “But please, more realistically, drink responsibly. You don’t want to end up in the hospital or worse because of alcholo poisoning.”
“Okay.”
“Alright, now it’s time for the shot.” Dr. Choi stands up. “I will let you know that the birth control has some side effects. Changes in heat may occur, though it is supposed to mostly regulate it. Dizziness, change in sex drive, nausea may occur. You’ll have to come back in three months to get another shot.”
“I can deal with that if it keeps me from getting pregnant.” Jongdae grins as Dr. Choi rolls his sleeve up and rubs an alcohol patch where he’s going to be stuck. Dr. Choi flicks the syringe to make sure there aren’t any air bubbles in it before he presses it to Jongdae’s arm.
“Don’t tense up.” Dr. Choi instructs as the needle breeches Jongdae’s skin and goes into the bloodstream. For Jongdae though, it isn’t the needle piercing that gets him, it’s the actual injection of whatever is in the syringe. That’s what causes the soreness in his arm. Dr. Choi goes slowly, and once the syringe is empty he pulls it away, wipes away the small dot of blood that has bubbled up at the injection site, and puts a bandaid on it. “All done.”
“Thanks doctor.” Jongdae is relieved to finally be able to stand up on his feet. He does enough sitting when he’s at school in class.
“Don’t be afraid to email me if anything comes up regarding your health. Everything you email me will be completely confidential, even from your family. I’ll see you in three months.” Dr. Choi leads Jongdae out to the reception area where his mother is sitting, reading one of the magazines the office leaves out.
Jongdae goes over to sign himself out at the reception desk, giving his mother enough time to gather her things and stand up. They intercept on the way to the door. “How was it?” Seoyun finally asks.
“It was fine.”
“You didn’t cry did you?”
“Mom.” Jongdae whines. “Why’d you say that so loud?”
“No one was listening.” Seoyun tells him.
“How do you know?”
“Jongdae, it’s nothing to whine about. You haven’t cried getting shots since you were little. No big deal.”
Seoyun takes Jongdae out to eat before she drives him back to school. He gets back at four in the evening, and Seoyun gives him a kiss on the cheek saying she’ll see him during break, before driving off.

“You smell different.”
“That’s such a wonderful greeting.” Jongdae deadpans as Baekhyun sits next to him at the table.
“You do.” Baekhyun emphasizes as he looks over his food. Jongdae can tell something is up though, because even though he’s only been with Baekhyun for four months he can tell when Baekhyun’s mind is on something else.
“Whatever you want to do, just do it.” Jongdae inform Baekhyun. What Jongdae isn’t expecting is for Baekhyun to lean over, into Jongdae’s personal space and shove his nose into his neck and take a deep sniff.
“What did you do?”
“Absolutely nothing different than what I usually do. No new soap, no new cologne. It must be your nose.”
“I know it’s not my nose. It’s you. What did you do, you smell completely different. I don’t like it.”
“Baekhyun, nothing has changed. Trust me.”
Baekhyun doesn’t let it go though, and when Han and Kyungsoo sit down at the table he looks at them. “Does Jongdae smell different to you?”
The two look at Baekhyun in confusion before they look at Jongdae. Kyungsoo sniffs the air and nods. Han does the same, though he adds words. “Oh, yeah. It’s the birth control. It does the same thing to Kyungsoo’s scent, it only lasts like two days though.”
“Oh. Don’t think the doctor told me of that side effect.” Jongdae brings his chopsticks to his mouth. “Yeah, that must be it.”
“You’re on birth control?”
“Yeah, that’s why I was gone all day. I was at the doctors. I thought I told you?” Jongdae’s tone changes to voice his confusion. “I could have swore I did.”
“I think I’d remember you telling me something about going to the doctor.”
“I completely forgot then. I’m sorry.”
Baekhyun looks at Jongdae before nodding, going back to his phone. Jongdae must’ve really taken what Baekhyun said to heart. He’s slightly glad though, because having Jongdae on birth control leaves less worry for the future.

“Hey, Jongdae.”
It takes Jongdae a few minutes to recognize the female in front of him. In the dark he can tell that her hair has been bleached so now it’s a very light blonde. On top of that it has been cut so now it hands just above her shoulders.
“Taeyeon? What are you doing here?” Jongdae stares at her in confusion. The last thing he remembers hearing about Taeyeon is that she was going to a college in Busan, and that was hours away from Jeonju.
“I was on my way home for spring break. A few of my friends who go here told me about the party that was going on tonight. I decided to make a stop before I went home.” Taeyeon waves at some of her old high school friends who pass by. “It’s nice seeing you. What have you been up to?”
“Oh, nothing, just school work. And you?”
“Pretty much the same.” she nods as she says this. “School. I have a part time job at this cute cafe down the street from my apartment.”
“You don’t live in dorms?”
“No. I have a good roommates that I live with. My parents pay for my education, so I use the job to pay my part of the rent. Anyway, it’s been nice seeing you, but I have to go catch up with some people.” Taeyeon’s look over his shoulder as she says this, her eyes clearly on someone. “I’ll catch you later, Jongdae.” she pats his shoulder as she walks away.
Jongdae doesn’t bother turning around to see who she’s going to talk to because he could care less. Right now Jongdae is going to the kitchen to get some water. Yes, spring break may be starting, but he doesn’t need to start it off drunk.
He walks into the kitchen to see Taemin and his boyfriend sucking face. Right by the coolers where the water is held. He doesn’t know how to interrupt them, so he tries to loudly clear his throat. It doesn’t work.
A few other people are in the kitchen though, and one of the girls, Sunyoung, notices Jongdae’s struggle. “Yo, Taemin! Get off your boyfriend and you guys go up to your room to fuck. Let the guy get some water.”
Taemin pulls away from his boyfriend to look behind him. From looking at Taemin’s eyes he can tell that the guy is drunk.p Jinki, his boyfriend, looks a little more sober. “Oh. Sorry, Jongdae. We’ll just… yeah.” Jinki cuts himself as he leads Taemin away, presumably to Taemin’s bedroom.
“Thanks, Sunyoung.”
“No problem, Jongdae.” Sunyoung winks at Jongdae. Sunyoung is one of the nicest Betas that Jongdae has met, she’s always so friendly to him. “We were getting sick of seeing them anyway.” Sunyoung motions her head to her boyfriend, Minho. Minho nods in agreement.
Jongdae walks over to one of the coolers and opens it. Beer. The next one has wine coolers in it. The last one, the one closest to Sunyoung and Minho has the water.
“You’re not getting drunk?” Minho jokes as Jongdae drinks half the water in one go. “That’s a surprise.”
“Nah, I gotta pack tomorrow before we leave. I don’t need to wake up hungover.” Jongdae tells him.
“Where are you going for break?”
“Just home, nowhere special. What about the two of you?”
“Minho and I are actually going to Jeju for break. My family is going to be there, so they offered to pay for Minho’s ticket and room.” Sunyoung smiles as she pats her boyfriend’s arm. “They really like him, that’s the only reason they did it.”
“It’s nice to have my girlfriend’s family actually like me. I’d be terrified if my significant other’s family hated me. Taemin has to go through hell every time he goes over Jinki’s place. They hate Taemin. Claimed he tainted their son. It’s hilarious.” Minho laughs.
“At least my family like Baekhyun. I think Baekhyun’s parents like me too.” Jongdae nods in agreement at Minho’s words. “It would really suck if either of our parents didn’t like us.”
“We should consider ourselves lucky.” Minho tolds his beer bottle out, which Sunyoung and Jongdae press their own drinks to in a toast fashion.
Jongdae chats with them for a while before he looks at the clock that’s hanging up in the kitchen. “We’ve been talking for forty minutes.” Jongdae is surprised at how fast the time has gone by. “Not that I don’t enjoy talking to you two, but…”
“Hey, no problem Jongdae.” Sunyoung tells him. “You can go. We probably kept you longer than you meant to be here. After all, you just wanted some water, right? Go, have fun.”
Jongdae nods his goodbye as he goes to the living room to find his friends. He settles for Minseok, who, as usual, is standing in a corner, sipping on his beer as he watches the party go on.
“You never seem to have fun at any of these things. Why do you even come?” Jongdae stands in front of Minseok as he talks.
Minseok shrugs. “Junmyeon likes to hang out with his friends. I usually follow wherever he goes.”
“Like a lovesick puppy?” Jongdae teases.
“I guess you could say that.” Minseok grins. “Where’d you go? I haven’t seen you in a while. If Baekhyun wasn’t in this room I probably would have thought you two were having a quickie or something.”
Jongdae shakes his head. “Nah, I don’t think Baekhyun would approve of that. I was in the kitchen. I went to get water and got caught up talking to Minho and Sunyoung.”
“It must’ve been a good conversation for you to be gone that long.”
“It just kept branching off into different topics and time got away from us. I guess it was a good conversation.” Jongdae shrugs. “I enjoyed it.”
Minseok looks away from Jongdae as he starts his sentence, only to cut himself short. Jongdae watches as his eyes narrow and his lips press so tightly together that they turn white. Jongdae starts to turn to see what exactly Minseok is staring at.
Oh.
Baekhyun. And Taeyeon. Together. As in, their lips are touching, and Taeyeon has wrapped her arms around Baekhyun’s neck. Baekhyun’s hands go down to Taeyeon’s hips and there’s where Jongdae has to look away.
Minseok tries to wrap an arm around Jongdae to comfort him but Jongdae shrugs him off.
“I. Le-” Jongdae’s words are cut short as he tries not to cry. “Let’s go.” Jongdae pushes past Minseok to head out the door that’s attached to the kitchen, so he doesn’t have to pass Baekhyun and Taeyeon.
“Whoa, Jongdae, are you alright?” Sunyoung stands up straight as she sees the now crying Omega push his way past some of the party goers in the kitchen to get to the door. Jongdae shakes his head as he grabs the knob and turns it. “Wait, Jongdae!” Sunyoung tries to follow only for Minseok to touch her shoulder to tell her to stay as he makes his way right after Jongdae.
Sunyoung looks at Minho with a lot of confusion before Baekhyun runs into the kitchen, eyes scanning the crowd. “Shit. Did you two see where Jongdae went?” Baekhyun asks the only two in the kitchen that he’s sure knows who Jongdae is.
“Yeah, he and Minseok just ran out the back door a minute ago. Why? What happened?”
“I can’t explain.” Baekhyun says as he rushes out the door himself, in an attempt to find his boyfriend to explain to him what’s going on. When he doesn’t see Jongdae or Minseok immediately he starts into a sprint as he heads towards Jongdae’s dorm, because he’s fucked if he doesn’t explain what the hell is going on to Jongdae.

Jongdae remains silent as Minseok herds him into the back seat of the car. Minseok’s on the phone, probably with Junmyeon, as he buckles Jongdae’s seatbelt as though he was a toddler. “It’s alright if we leave tonight, right?” Minseok sighs as he sees more tears start to leak from the corner of Jongdae’s eyes. He steps away momentarily to open the passenger side door to reach into the glove department where there’s a large stack of gas station napkins that their mom stuffed into there before they went back to school.
Minseok hands the napkin to Jongdae, to takes it and blows his nose on it. “Yeah, we’re at the car. I’ll pull up to the party and you can just leave and get in. We can just wear the clothes that at my house, I think Jongdae wants to be out of here as soon as possible.” Minseok hangs up the phone with a quick ‘I love you’ before he rounds the car to get in and start driving.
They come to a stop and a door opens. Jongdae doesn’t pay attention to which one, only to be slightly startled as a comforting arm is placed around his body. “Jongdae, it’s going to be okay.” Junmyeon consoles as Minseok takes off. “It probably isn’t what it seems.”
“Isn’t what it seems my ass.” Jongdae hiccups. “His lips were on hers. What doesn’t that seem like?”
Junmyeon falls silent because he doesn’t have a reasonable way to explain it.
