Hate Vicodin

I set my alarm to get up and call my Urologist. In May he prescribed a number of medications for my IC (a chronic pain condition centering around the bladder). In the event of a particularly bad flare, he prescribed Vicodin for me. I dislike taking them, purely on principle. They work exactly like they should, helping to break through the pain and get it back under control. It also provides a pleasant (for me) cloud 9 experience for a good 8-10 hours. I think that's why I dislike taking them.

Well, in my refusal to take them until the pain is unbearable, I managed to miss the refill expiration date by 7 days. I took my last one last night. The expiration date for refills was Nov 25th. *sigh* So a call to my Urologist was in order. I'm certain he will authorize the refill, as he originally gave me 2 refills and I was still on my original 30 until last night.

For now, my IC is holding steady. It's taken conscientious eating habits and drinking a moderate bit of water to keep the flares down to maybe one or two days a month. I've managed to avoid the potassium deficiency issue I had a few months ago by occasionally indulging in a bit of fruit, which in turn usually causes my flare days. For once I can directly see the cause and effect relationship that controls my IC.

I'm not on my Elmiron due to a lack of insurance, but for now it seems to be ok. I wasn't on it long enough to see any effects (and with an approx 6% bio-availability, that's a long time). At some point I will likely go back on it, when I have long term insurance again. But until then, my hair is safe. For now. :D

Back to sleep for the 3rd shifter.
