Stake outs were never comfortable. Especially not when it had started pouring rain and they'd been forced to take shelter in the tiny public library across the street from Donovan's piercing pagoda storefront

Rose brushed the remnants of her donut off her face as she shifted in the uncomfortable cubicle. "Do you really think if we wait here long enough, he'll just come out?"
"There's a chance," Dimitri replied, which wasn't a solid answer, but it was the one he could give at the moment. "It's clear enough we can't go in." No matter how much Dimitri liked the idea of going after a Strigoi, he couldn't run the risk not knowing the numbers.
She just barely kept herself from sighing, knowing there wasn't anything they could do about it. "Maybe we could, like, buy some spy cameras and plant them on the humans who wander in."
"I almost wish we could stop any humans from wandering in. It's doubtful they'll wander back out." Unless they knew what they were getting into like Strigoi blood whores.
Oh the internal cringing could not be contained after that thought.
"Not necessarily," she pondered. "The rain would probably prevent the fire from spreading too quickly. And it's not like they don't have fire departments."
"If there was just a single Strigoi in there, we wouldn't be sitting here staking the place out," Rose said dryly. "Pretty sure between the two of us we could take one out." Plus they'd counted at least 10 going in and out.
Which wasn't really an answer. They couldn't risk humans like that.
"And we'd lose our chance at finding Sonya," he pointed out. Which was really the goal, even if Dimitri looked forward to the killing Strigoi part a little too much. "No, we need someone who can go in there."
She shrugged. "We could question him before killing him."
But Dimitri was pretty much right, and Rose sighed, leaning her head back against the wall. "We can't just recruit a human and send 'em in. Not that you'd want to do that either, but they'll know what I am." Annd back to the same argument that'd been going on.
"And they'll know what I'm not," he filled in, frowning again as he considered their less than stellar options again. He paused, turning to tilt his head at her, wondering if he hadn't lost his mind with this thought. "But we could recruit a human."
Rose frowned back at him. "Haven't we already had this conversation? I mean, unless we call Kyle or Jaina or someone from Fandom, it's not going to fly."
"That's what I'm saying," Dimitri nodded. "Kyle is the one from Vegas, yes?" While it was awkward to remember that encounter, Dimitri actually remembered that kid standing up to him with zero fear, which made him rather perfect for this task.
With a little bit of a smile, Rose looked up at him for the suggestion. "Yeah, he's the one. We can't break him though No Lissa, and I think he has to go home soon." Sadly.
