Red says: "It's because you are a POTHEAD!"

I totally need a "YOU /POTHEAD/" Red Foreman icon (if I have the space for it), Red Foreman is such a totally cool character in one of the coolest shows on earth (That 70's Show), he's very conservative, but he totally respects his much more Liberal wife.
A few days ago, CBC did a morning show about the relative invisibility of the middle age woman, up until very recently, and how the mention of menopause is taboo. That 70's Show did it though, since Kitty Foreman is a nurse, she had always been very forward about it and sexuality.

Another cool thing is, though they are in the middle ages, Red and Kitty are shown to have a very active, happy, and healthy sex life (they get a lot of 'sudden eye contact' moments followed by a race up the stairs), in contrast to Everybody Loves Raymond where sex was portrayed as a housewife's chore, and Ray whines whenever his wife is tired and has a headache. When Kitty was feeling down due to menopause and the empty nest thing, Red got her a dog, even though he's not the friendly sort, and the dog stayed even when it really annoyed Red, and he didn't whine about it to Kitty in an effort to make her feel guilty, the way Ray would have.

LOL, excerpts from the currently informative wiki:
"In general Red doesn't like Eric's friends hanging out in his home and, specifically, he dislikes Donna's parents, Bob and Midge Pinciotti. He also dislikes Kelso and Fez, though he is apparently able to tolerate Jackie, and he actully liks Donna, mostly because he thinks that if Eric has a son with her he will be good at sports. His antagonism towards the teenagers is because Red prefers peace and quiet, believing that since he has worked hard and raised his children, he deserves time to himself to share with Kitty."

Another Red Foreman > Ray Annoying is, instead of viewing his wife as a shrill authority figure he must flee from and being a total manchild to add to her childcaring burden, Red really loves his wife and shows it, he enjoys spending time with her.

"Red met Kitty at a USO dance in the 1950s. Young and impetuous, he and a Navy buddy dropped their pants, showing shorts that read "Hello, Ladies", just as a younger, drunken Kitty was heading out; she bumped into Red as he was bent over. Slightly embarrassed, Red immediately corrected his pants and pulled Kitty to her feet, and fell in love with her at first sight. Years later they both had trouble remembering it, with Red insisting he punched out a Marine who was being overly rude to Kitty, but Kitty denied that. Later when they both had a drink, the memory came back, and an incredulous Red said "You bumped into my butt and that's how we met?" They both agreed to tell Eric the punching out a marine story if he ever asked, and to not mention Kitty drinking but instead say she was reading to the blind."

LOL.

Kitty Foreman is awesomely not a stiff shirt too, she likes her alcohol, but I betcha this would totally be overlooked had she been a man, I mean, Red drinks too. Kitty also smokes, but quit someway through the show, when the actress did. Kitty has a really particular laugh that grows on ya. One of the shows I rewatched recently, was the take-your-kids to work day, in which Red discovers that Jackie can hold a flashlight properly as he's fixing his car "My god, one of you isn't useless!", and Eric follows his mom to work at the hospital. It ends with Eric making a resolution to not have a job that would include touching dead people when they are driving back, Kitty unaffected as she sings along to the radio, lol. Eric is okay but he is such a wimp.

ETA, this moment of brain breakage is brought to you by mrs260:

It's Cardassian!RedForeman, with his 'stop this nonesense before I put my foot up your ass' expression intact... LOL, Thrax quit and made way for Odo because Dukat wouldn't stop smoking the crack pipe. There is just so many level of wrongs in this.

...and I haven't noticed this before, but Kurtwood Smith was also the President of the Federation in The Undiscovered Country. That movie was another reason why the original series rocked the hardest, the President was actually some alien instead of a human.

husband extraordinaire, red foreman, kitty foreman, that 70's show, trek actors, cardassians
