I simply can't believe that the summer is passing by so quick. It seems that I'm always feeling that way. The summer has been good to me thus far--I spent the long 4th of July weekend in Virginia with Dan and some friends of his. Perfect relaxing weekend with delicious food of all sorts. This past Sunday we went to Long Beach (Long Island) and took a nice (albeit very hot) walk on the boardwalk--Dan even bought me a snow cone :)--my mouth was delightfully blue for the rest of the afternoon. On Monday I started volunteering at a non-profit called Sanctuary for Familes--they are one of the largest non-profits in NY state that deal with victims of domestic violence, attacking it from every angle--they have social workers, lawyers, counselors--all under one roof. I applied back in January to volunteer after coming across it online. I want to get some experience for if/when I apply for grad school to my MSW. The only capacity to deal with clients/people face to face is by working with the children of the moms/parent that is getting the assistance. While he or she is in group sessions Sanctuary provides child care. I really enjoyed it my first time this week, and am very excited about the opportunities that could arise from it--networking and learning more about the field being the main ones.
So, Evan and his girlfriend, Brooke, are coming for along weekend. They're supposed to get here tomorrow. I think it'll be a fun weekend!
