David Farland pointed out this article by Pat Holt: "
Ten Mistakes Writers Don't See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do)." It focuses primarily on word choice and other nasties.
From David's "Daily Kick in the Pants" yesterday:
"For new writers, here is a link to a helpful article on ten things to avoid in your writing--covering topics like overuse of adverbs, word repetition, and so on. While I tend to think of these topics as being of use to younger authors, one of my friends had an editor who thought that it was so helpful, he sent it out to his entire list:"
It's all good stuff to be reminded of. Time to pull out some stories and look them over for some of these mistakes. It's a good time for it. Currently I'm not writing new material. I'm going through some short stories that have stymied me, and am trying to fix them. On other fronts, as I mentioned recently, I'm rolling through three novel ideas, trying to see which gels enough in my head to run with it.
