I know a country like Iceland legalizing gay marriage may seem like non-news (after all, it's hardly a shock considering they have an openly gay head of state), but what I thought was most interesting was that their parliament passed the measure unanimously, with a vote of 49-0. Although to be fair, Iceland has a 63-member parliament.

Pope Benedict XVI denounced same-sex marriage as a "threat to creation." This comes in the wake of several heavily Catholic countries (Portugal, Argentina, and Mexico, among others) legalizing or considering same-sex marriage in part or all of their lands recently. As a follow up of sorts to a recent discussion about gay marriage vs. gay adoption, I thought this article about Portugal was interesting.

Gay marriage isn't legal yet, but it's on its way. I did think it was interesting that while they supported marriage equality, gay adoption was rejected.
