    There are so many members of the GLBT communities through out the United States that have our newest members are teenagers. They have so many problems when it comes to coming out to family, friends, and peers. When they do come out to their parents about half of today's youth get kicked out of their home and are put out on the streets. ( Read more... )

Larger cities have more resources available - even though the problems still persist, despite those efforts - but that doesn't help most people, who live between San Francisco and New York, Miami and Seattle, Chicago and Las Angeles.

I don't think there's much anyone can do if someone decides to experiment with drugs - a fairly common occurrence in adolescence - and then gets addicted and begins to abuse.

and in many areas, a lot of the resources for people who are homeless and/or addicts are run by churches. Which, even if they aren't homophobic, many lgbt people may not feel comfortable going to those sources for help.

Yeah, the only teen homeless shelter I know in Anchorage (that doesn't cater to pregnant girls) is Covenant House, which is Catholic. I don't think they push religion on anyone, although they make it available. But I get what you mean.

I think the nearest homeless shelters here are all church run. there is an organization for homeless lgbt youth in Detroit, and according to their website, they are the only such service in the entire Midwestern US
